Surgical Services Processing Technician

ELIGIBLE FOR CMH EMPLOYEE REFERRAL BONUS: PRIORITY RECRUITMENT This position is responsible to collect procedure instruments and trays used in other departments to manually clean, disinfect, inspect, lubricate, terminally sterilize, assembles/label, wrap, load sterilizer carts, and appropriately operate Steris and steam sterilizers. Returns processed items to the various departments according to protocols. Assists in ordering daily supplies, special order items and re-stocking supplies when received. Reports irregularities to Charge Nurse or Manager. Performs housekeeping duties as assigned. Job Requirements Knowledge of /Skill/Ability to: Safe sterilization and decontamination practices, Operation and troubleshooting of sterilizers to include steam, peracetic acid. Knowledge and operation of high level disinfectant chemicals, indicators, and related supplies. Knowledge of basic housekeeping techniques and safe use of PPE’s/infection control standards. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, names, uses. Ability to prioritize workload and work independently. License/Certification:Sterile Processing Certification required within 6 months of hire. Education and/or Experience: High School graduate or equivalent required. Demonstrated awareness of asepsis concept. Basic training in sterilization processing. Basic decontamination /sterilization process training. Working knowledge of sterile technique. Experience in health care setting. Demonstrated experience in processing preferred. Good organization and communication skills. Demonstrated legible handwriting. Housekeeping experience in acute care facility preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases. Ability to lift instrument sets and stock supplies. Dexterity in folding and wrapping sets. Ability to push cart (large and small). Must be able to stoop, bend and lift without straining. Must be able to push or pull cleaning carts and mop buckets. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Prolonged standing and walking required.
