Surgical Support Technician - McLaren Careers
**Position Summary:** Supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Hospital. Facilitates smooth operation of patient care services through broad range of clerical and support services. Assists surgery team with direct/indirect patient care activities including sterile procedure setup. Intraoperatively, the Surgical Support Technician practices at the direction of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as a surgical technologist. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities:** 1. Assists in maintaining safe and orderly patient careenvironment adhering to all safety standards and policies & procedures. 2. Demonstrates competency and knowledge in performingspecified skills, including transporting and activities that occur in a sterileenvironment. 3. Assists with supplying ORsuites with stock items; supplies blanket/fluid warmer; runs errands thatsupport patient care activity. 4. Assists with room turnover by performing activitiessuch as, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, removing trash, anddisinfecting as appropriate. 5. Scrubs in during procedureto “hold extremity and/or retractor” as required adhering to surgery asepsisprinciples. 6. After completing unitspecific competency cut suture at the direction of the physician. 7. Respondsto real or simulated emergency and disaster situations according to establishedprocedures. 8. Assumesresponsibility for obtaining current information related to the patient careand attends all 9. mandatory in-services. 10. Demonstratesability to perform job duties in an organized fashion and is able to establishpriorities in an independent, timely fashion. 11. Maintainspatient privacy and confidentiality. 12. Participatesin all performance improvement activities. 13. Provides for the agespecific needs of the population served according to department standards, asevidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback. Has procedure knowledge related to normal/abnormal anatomy; ability to anticipate and provide for potential complications; confirms that instrumentation is appropriate for patient, age, and size. **Qualifications:** _Required:_ + HighSchool Diploma or GED. + CPRissued by American Heart Association and BLS + Minimumof one (1) year experience in a patient care area _Preferred:_ + NursingAssistant Certification
