Responsibilities The Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting in the care of the patient who is in the operating room phase of his/her hospitalization. This assistance is performed under the supervision of a registered nurse. The Surgical Tech must have knowledge in fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and assists in the operative procedure with care, preparation, maintenance, and aftercare of sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment. The Surgical Tech must function as a synergistic, harmonious and productive entity. Also, fulfills the goals and contributes to the overall purposes and objectives of the hospital. Knowledge of standard nursing endoscopy, and anesthesia used in the OR Prepares patients, equipment and room procedures Assists physician with procedures, which include biopsies, cytology smears and polypectomies. Reports all undesirable matters or services requiring correction Observes safety procedures and provides continual vigilance against accidents, fire, theft, vandalism, harm and appropriate disclosure of private information. Develops and maintains personal skills by keeping up with current developments in conjunction with job title. Performs other duties as required. Serves as a hospital liaison when dealing with patients, physicians, general public and commercial vendors Assists in Central Processing duties as required. Attends in-service programs when appropriate. Reports trends, plans and actions which may affect Hospital operations. Performs other duties as required. Adheres to guidelines for sterilization of instruments and supplies: Complies with OSHA Standards and risk management Demonstrates competency in performing job tasks and in operating equipment. Maximum care and caution when handling equipment and instructions. Conservative use of supplies. Qualifications Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Requirements: High School Graduate or equivalent. Prior OR experience. Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program. Prior Experience as a Surgical Technologist - Required 1 year of experience. Current Surgical Technologist certification preferred. License or Certification: Current BLS USD $30.00/Hr. USD $35.00/Hr.
