POSITION SUMMARY

Special Procedures Surgical Technician assists with the nursing care of the patients in the OR by performing routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and policy and procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse at all times. Other duties include stocking, replenishing, preparing, and/or selecting supplies and equipment for storage or use during surgical procedures. Assists with housekeeping functions to maintain cleanliness in the OR. Activities are directed toward achieving desired patient outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to interpret information to identify the patient’s age specific needs and provides appropriate care for the age group in question. Employee may flex or float depending on business needs or directives of Supervisor.

Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education / Licensure / Certifications

High school graduate or GED Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or equivalent, or On The Job Training in Advanced Thoracic and Orthopedic procedures.

Minimum Experience

Clinical experience of at least one year, or graduate of Surgical tech. Program.

Physical Requirements

Requires walking and standing during most of the time on duty. Frequent reaching, handling of instruments and equipment. Speaking and hearing essential for relaying of information, receiving doctor’s orders. Visual acuity required working with records and equipment. Frequently lifting 30-50 pounds. Works beyond scheduled tour of duty in an emergency. Maintains a state of health adequate to perform the duties of the job. Possible contact to moving mechanical parts. Required to make decisions and concentrate – continuously. Exposure to temperature extremes – moderate. Work environment lighting and noise - varies. Exposed to stressful and traumatic situations. Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals – varies. Takes call as required by staffing guidelines.
