Surgical Tech Student Apprentice PRN
Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the immediate supervision of Nurse Manger and/or Supervisor, Surgery, and the clinical guidance of a registered nurse and surgical technologist, prepares the surgical suite and patient for surgery and assists the team during the procedure.

Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

BCLS within 90 days of hire

Experience:

No specific experience is required.

Education:

Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) and is currently a first or second year student in a Surgical Technology Program from an accredited university.  In addition, the student candidate must provide documentation from the school reflecting the student successfully completed an initial classroom component which includes basic laboratory check off stations.  Documentation is required prior to start date.

Job Knowledge & Skills: 

1)         Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.

2)         Requires a thorough knowledge of sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.

3)         Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments and supplies utilized in order to prepare operating suite/treatment room for surgery and assist medical team throughout procedure under the leadership of an RN.

4)         Requires basic working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including neonate, child, adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.

5)         Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
