Position Summary

The Certified Surgical Technician First Assist provides aid with technical functions alongside the surgeon to perform safe care and achieve optimal results for the patient.  All tasks will be completed according to the standards of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBST), Association of Surgical Technologist (AST), Surgical department and Hospital policies.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalentCertified Surgery Technician requiredThree years of operating room experience preferredCertified Surgical First Assist requiredObtain BLS certification within 3 months of hire

Essential Job Functional

Expedites the operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon during all casesUpdates and keeps records of surgeon preference cardsDon OR attire and personal protective equipment (PPE)Gathers, checks, opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedureAssist with prepping of the skin and draping of the patientPositioning the patientParticipates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedureProviding visualization of the operative siteUtilizing appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasisParticipating in volume replacement or autotransfusion techniques as appropriateUtilizing appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planesSelecting and applying appropriate wound dressingsAid in securing drainage systems to tissueAssists with patient transfersAssists with room turnover and return of unused suppliesAssist OR personnel as needed
