POSITION DETAILS: Part-time with benefits; 64 hours in the two week pay period, Monday through Friday, 8 hour shifts working between the hours of 6am and 3:30pm; Monday - Thursday weeknight on call rotation (approximately 1 per week); weekend on call (approximately 1 in every 5th when fully staffed) and Holiday on call rotation. On call is paid at $5.50 per hour and when called in it's $1.45 more per hour and time and a half. On call requires 20min ready in the OR response time, if home is not local on site accommodations are available. This position is also eligible for our critical needs bonus of $5000 for someone with experience over the first 18 months of employment. APPLY NOW. JOB SUMMARY To maintain the sterile field in the operating room, being constantly vigilant to see that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. To assist the surgical team as the sterile member who passes instruments, sutures and sponges during surgery. Provides care for patients and families as delegated by the nurse in accordance with the appropriate minimum standard of care. Prepares and sterilizes all equipment used within the operating room and gastroenterology room. Assists MD and RN with gastroenterology procedures and assists RN with pre and post procedure tasks as delegated. MAJOR JOB FUNCTION + Before an operation, helps set up the operating room and organizes sterile table with surgical instruments and equipment, sterile linens and sterile solutions. Prepares gastroenterology room for procedure. + Checks, audits and operates equipment such as lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units, diagnostic equipment, orthopedic and endoscopy equipment. + Performs decontamination, sterilization and repackaging of supplies used throughout the hospital. Sterilization equipment includes but is not limited to autoclaves, washer disinfector, ultrasonic, and Sterrad. + Processes all used equipment daily. + Checks all supplies used for proof of sterilization. + Notifies manager or CS Coordinator of equipment maintenance needs. + Scrubs hands and arms, puts on sterile operating room attire to be able to work within the sterile field established around the patient and to handle the sterilized instruments, equipment and supplies used in the procedure. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon. + Holds retractors, cuts sutures and applies dressings as directed. + Cleans and restocks the operating room and gastroenterology room. + Orders supplies. + Assists with performing gastroenterology procedures. + Obtains specimens. + Assists RN and physician as needed. + Provides age-appropriate care for all age groups. + Anticipates potential adverse changes in patient care and notifies RN. + Interacts effectively with patients. + Maintains safety of clients. + Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation of patient cares and any other related computerized patient information/documentation. + Performs all other duties as assigned. + Participates in the orientation and education of others. + Assists physician, physician assistant or RN with administering medication. + Assists with vital signs, gathering data and ambulating patients. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS + Completion of an accredited Surgical Tech program with eligibility to obtain certification is required. + Sterile processing technician certification within one year of hire required. + Current certification or eligibility to become BLS certified. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees. + Must have a high energy level with ability to work under the stress of the operating room atmosphere and exhibit emotional maturity, stability and flexibility. + Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment. + Needs to possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details. + Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment. + Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for infant through geriatric patients. JOB REQUIREMENTS + Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. + Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. + Ability to respond appropriately to changing staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources . + Full range of body motion and flexibility is required on a daily basis. + Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to verify visual and audio alarms on machines.
