Surgical Technologist - Labor & Delivery
Overview Fairview Health Services is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Delivery Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital locations in Minneapolis, MN. We’re offering an up to $6,000 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000! As a Surgical Technologist, you will efficiently perform the functions of as a scrub person during surgical procedures delivering patient care services served during the shift of duty in collaboration with the RN. You will also be collaborating to carry out the standards of nursing practice and patient care, accurate use of supplies/equipment and maintenance of the surgical suite under the direction of an RN. Schedule: This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shifts. This position will also work a weekend rotation as needed. About our Birth Place / Delivery Room at UMMC West Bank: We are a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily. The Birth Place has 14 Labor and Delivery Rooms and 3 Operating Rooms. Responsibilities Job Description As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for: Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items. Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures. Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens. Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments. Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment. Modifying clinical interventions based on population served. Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking. Anticipating the surgeon’s needs. Following appropriate action in emergency situations. Qualifications Required Qualifications Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date) Preferred Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience Other Required Skills Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served. Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions. Desired Skills Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations. Ability to work well under a team environment. Excellent communication skills. The ability to prioritize and multi-task in a complex work environment.
