Position Responsibilities
Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Practices ethically. Performs patient care under supervision of a RN or Surgeon. Communicates effectively in all areas of practice. Collaborates with patient, family, and the interdisciplinary team in the conduct of Surgical Technologist practice. Evaluates her or his own Surgical Technologist practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations. Lift, moves, positions, and transports patients. Considers age, growth, and development when providing care. Assist in duties as requested to meet the day to day operations of the unit. Utilizes appropriate resources to plan and provide services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible. Respects diversity and individualizes care to meet the unique needs of the patient. Assures safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff to reach a shared goal of delivering health care. Sets priorities and demonstrates organizational skills. Maintains and improves the healthcare practice environment conducive to the provision of quality health care. Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current surgical technologist practice. Maintains professional competence. Continually reassesses competencies and identifies needs for additional knowledge, skills, personal growth, and integrative learning experiences Integrates evidence and research findings into practice. Contributes to quality health care practice. Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner. Scrubs, gowns and gloves utilizing sterile technique before surgery Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants Helps in draping sterile field Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure Prepares sterile dressings Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room Assists in prepping room for the next patient Cross trains to Center Core and Sterile Processing Practices "point of use guidelines" by cleaning and preparing instruments for terminal cleaning. Responsible for on-call duties as scheduled. Performs other assigned duties Assist in room turnovers, restocking rooms at end of shift, and terminal cleaning assigned room (Standard Work). Complete monthly assigned cleaning and out dates following Standard Work. Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Graduation from a Surgical Technology Program. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements. Preferred Qualifications: CST Certification Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience: Proficient in communication skills. Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines. Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 1 year experience preferred.
