**Job Description:** The Surgical Technologist performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Surgical Technologist will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition, this person will actively participate in the surgical operations safety plan as outlined. **About Heber Valley Hospital** Heber Valley Hospital is a full-service community hospital dedicated to providing high-quality medical services to Wasatch County residents. Our services include emergency care, women and newborn services, orthopedic and general surgery, heart care, and cancer care. In 2020 we completed a five-year renovation project that enhanced access, privacy and improved the overall hospital experience. Heber Valley Hospital has a rich history of providing medical care to Wasatch County. Heber Valley Hospital's roots go back to 1932 when the first hospital was opened in Lewis Alexander's home by Doctors Bert and T.A. Danneberg. In 1956 the hospital was renamed in honor of Dr. Karl O. Nielson and dedicated on May 25, 1969. Just before the 2002 Olympics, in 1999, Intermountain Health opened a new state-of-the-art medical facility at 454 East Medical Way, which expanded healthcare access for our community. In order to meet the needs of a growing community in 2015, we embarked on a renovation project that added many inpatient and outpatient services to the campus, including expanded and improved surgical suites, extended urgent and emergency care services, Intermountain Cancer Services, and infusion therapy. **About the Operating Room and Cases** The operating room case load consists of the following specialties: Orthopedics, ENT, general surgery, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Endoscopy, and Urology. **Scheduling and Shift** This is a PRN/As Needed/On call position. The shift requirements are to cover vacation, sick, increase volumes, and protected leaves of absences. There is a one (1) shift biweekly 7AM - 7PM requirement. Minimal call requirement (approx. 1 weekend per month). More details about shifts and scheduling requirements will be discussed in the interview. The Surgical Technologist has a pathway opportunity identified for advancement to Surgical Technologist levels II or III. **Job Essentials** + Ensures room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria. + Maintains sterile field and safe environment. + Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes. + Prepares room and instruments for surgical procedure. May assist with sterile processing. + Assists the surgical staff during the procedure, within the scope of practice. + After procedure, cleans room and prepares for next procedure. + Identifies emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. **Posting Specifics** + Level I Pay Range: $23.25 - $35.89 + Level II Pay Range: $25.58 - $39.49 + Level III Pay Range: $28.15 - $43.42 + Benefits Eligible: No + Shift Details: PRN/On Call/As needed + Department: Operating Rooms - Heber Valley Hospital (Heber, Utah) + Shift Details: Variable hours, schedule will be discussed in interview. + **Additional compensation:** This position is eligible for a 5% geographical shift differential for hours worked. _This position could be filled as a Surgical Tech II or Surgical Tech III depending on experience and qualifications._ **Minimum Qualifications (Level I)** + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers. + Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program (ORT) + Or graduated from a non-accredited surgical tech program within the past six months, but not currently eligible to sit for Tech in Surgery exam (NCCT) + Or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years. + Or International training equivalent and legally authorized to work in the United States. **In addition to meeting Level I requirements, to qualify for a Level II/III role, you must also meet the following requirements:** **Minimum Qualifications (Level II)** + Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. + Competent in Basic Procedures or 1 or more specialty areas and/or facility case mix + Able to take assigned call + Must be in good standing. **Minimum Qualifications (Level III)** + Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. + Competent in Basic Procedures and 2 or more specialty areas such as (Ortho, Robotics, Neuro, CV, Trauma, Transplant, Reimplants) and/or facility case mix. + Able to take assigned call + Must be in good standing **Preferred Qualifications** + Surgical Technologist with CVOR, Neuro, and Transplant experience + Active National Certification as an OR Tech in Surgery or Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification is expected within the timeframe outlined below. + Certification is required after hire as follows: + Surgical Technologists who graduated from an accredited program must certify within one year of hire (may use either NBSTSA or NCCT certification). + Surgical Technologists who have graduated from non-accredited programs or completed on-the-job or military training, need to certify as soon as possible. This can be done upon graduation or, according to the NCCT requirements, take beyond one year in order to meet worked hours (>6000) and case tracking requirements. Managers will need to meet with new hires and determine certification course, projected certification window, and track progress. **Physical Requirements:** Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, sterile indicator tags, colors, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. - and - Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. - and - Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment and instruments with precision and accuracy. This includes computer use and typing for documentation, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. - and - Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. - and - Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
