Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field surveys, including topographic, boundary, and utility surveys. The primary goal is to determine the locations of natural and man-made features, both underground and underwater, and their relationships to right-of-way and boundary lines.

ResponsibilitiesConduct field surveys to determine locations of natural and man-made features.Lay out grids, determine horizontal and vertical controls, and prepare survey sites by removing necessary obstacles.Operate survey instruments such as robotic total stations, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard survey equipment.Interpret construction plans, perform necessary calculations in the field, and perform construction layout.Create legible and accurate field notes.Upload and download data files and photographs.Set up, maintain, and operate all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.Essential Skills4+ years of surveyor or survey Crew Chief experienceExperience with Construction Staking/LayoutsExperience with Boundary/Topographic SurveysExperience with Leica or Trimble Robotic Total Stations, laser scanners, GPS, and Data CollectorsAbility to review and understand civil construction and architectural plans and specificationsAbility to perform basic mathematical and trigonometric calculationsWillingness to work in all weather conditionsPossess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving recordAdditional Skills & Qualifications5+ years of experienceSurvey CAD experienceExperience in both private and public sector projectsMDOT project experienceAbility to get Professional Surveyor LicenseAssociates or Bachelors in Civil, Construction, or similar degreeWork Environment

The position involves heavy field work in various weather conditions, working 45-50 hours per week with some weekend work. Flexible work hours are available. Majority of the time will be spent on job sites, with occasional meetings in one of the local Metro Detroit offices. A company truck will be provided for use during the day to travel to projects.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
