The Survey Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing survey operations, work load balancing, managing project budgets, and maintaining the quality and timeliness of survey deliverables. Tetra Tech survey crews and staff in California work from three offices in different regions, to cover the entire state. The successful candidate will manage and balance the incoming project workload with the staffing needs and availabilities in these offices, ensuring that the right people are working on the right projects to maximize quality and efficiency.
The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for the management of multiple concurrent land survey projects, including preparation of boundary, topographic, ALTA/ACSM, right-of-way, horizontal/vertical control, GIS, geodetic, bathometric, as-built, underground utilities, and various other types of surveys as well as preliminary and final plats, condominium documents, and legal descriptions.

Your Role:
Plan, direct, and coordinate work of the survey group. Maintain a dynamic schedule of field work and office work, including prioritization of job timing and deployment of personnel, equipment, and vehicles. Provide guidance/direction to Survey Technicians and Field Crews. Compile or direct others to compile field resources including calculations, maps and required data forms, and instructions, etc. for field crews. Manage data intake, processing, and preparation survey deliverables. Prepare proposals, scopes of work and level of effort estimates for various supporting and standalone survey projects. Coordinate with other disciplines, both internal and external, to understand needs of different projects. Manage project budgets, sub consultants and client invoicing. Maintain, develop, and enforce checklists, standard operating procedure for gear, vehicles, forms, data collection and storage, gear storage facilities, ordering, maintenance, data and schedule dissemination, communication, training. Develop our program to best utilize the capabilities of the equipment we own and fully take advantage of the new technology currently owned/ to be purchased. Responsible for quality control of data, drawings, legal descriptions, and other survey deliverables prepared by others. Adhere to corporate QA/QC guidelines and principles. Manage, train, and mentor other staff within the Survey groupQualifications:
8+ years of experience in land surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, and legal descriptions. California Professional Land Surveyor License (PLS) required (or out of state PLS with ability to obtain within 6 months) Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or other closely related field of study Familiarity using electronic instruments, field data collectors, GPS and robotic instruments. Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and other land development software to interpret and present information. Ability to prioritize and make decisions independently in a fast-paced production environment and handle complex issues/problems Desire to grow the survey group and survey practice in California through developing new clients and new lines of business. This should include a focus on use new technologies and working with other disciplines. Ability to manage performance of Survey team members and handle personnel issues as appropriate or needed.Physical Requirements:
This position may require protracted or irregular hours depending on the season. Traverse over rough terrain, and constantly position self to operate miscellaneous survey equipment. Occasionally ascend/descend ladders into trenches or onto roofs when inspecting construction and land development sites. May be subject to exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions, hazardous materials and chemicals, heavy construction equipment, confined spaces, heights, and air and waterborne pathogens. May handle and move items up to 50 pounds for various needs.Salary Range: $105,000-$140,000, depending on experience
