Job Description
We are looking for a hard-working and experienced candidate to join our team as a Survey Party Chief. In this role, you will aid and work alongside the survey party crew chief on various projects throughout South Carolina. Projects include DOT, Commercial, Federal, Government, Industrial, Power Companies, Warehouses, and more.
ResponsibilitiesLocate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes.Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate work efforts.Ensure the accuracy of angles, distances, and other collected information, ensuring they conform to regulations and standards.Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other stakeholders involved in projects.Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain necessary data.Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.Complete daily logs and expense reports.Ensure all crew members follow safety procedures and complete necessary safety forms.Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.Essential SkillsFamiliarity with commonly used surveying terms and the use and care of survey tools and equipment.Proficiency in the operation of survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.Experience with construction staking, boundary, and ALTA surveys.Ability to lead a team of surveyors.Data collection and Total Station operation skills.Ability to survey independently.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.3-5 years of experience as a party crew chief (open to discussing qualifications with less experience).Good technical skills and process-oriented behavioral traits.Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared background check, and negative drug test result.Work Environment
This role requires some overnight travel and involves a significant amount of walking outside year-round through various terrains and in extreme weather conditions. The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, with overtime earned depending on project load. On average, surveyors work 50-60 hours a week. The technician must be willing to travel as necessary and will report to the Charleston office daily to meet with the surveying team. The role involves about 50% travel, and technicians can take the company truck home. Physical requirements include the ability to work in environments with venomous snakes and insects, stand for long periods, work in a wide range of temperatures, climb hills, walk long distances, and lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00
