Job Title: Survey Party Chief
Job Description

The Survey Party Chief is responsible for managing daily survey activities, including running survey controls, topographical surveys, terrestrial and area LiDAR, and drone operations. This role requires minimal supervision and includes training junior crew members. A keen interest in the latest technology such as drone surveying is highly desirable.

ResponsibilitiesMaster survey equipment use and calibration including total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment, and digital/automatic levels.Read and interpret site, boundary, highway and utility plans, maps and surveys, profile and cross-sections, horizontal and vertical curves and contours, atlases and record drawings.Perform survey calculations, including level note reductions, angle and coordinate geometry.Supervise daily survey crew activities.Represent and communicate with clients, subcontractors, and third parties during field activities.Facilitate Daily Tailgate Safety Meetings.Perform Daily Job Hazard Analysis with crew members.Direct safety set-up and flagging operations for proper maintenance of traffic signage.Train other crew members.Maintain, clean, and operate vehicles, equipment, tools, and supplies effectively.Assist with daily vehicle pre-checks and completion of truck sheets.Complete monthly survey equipment inventory for Supervisor reorder.Load and unload survey equipment and supplies.Set up survey tripods to provide backsite and foresight operations.Cut line when necessary.Support Subsurface Utility Engineering services as required.Essential Skills5-7 years of experience surveying on GDOT projects, including right-of-way and bridge surveys.Experience with Trimble equipment and software.Proficiency in ALTA, boundary, topographical, tree, and utility surveying.Knowledge of terrestrial and aerial LiDAR.Drone Pilot License.Experience with GPS, total station, and digital terrain modeling.Familiarity with GDOT surveying and database projects.Additional Skills & Qualifications4+ years of experience leading crews in the field.High School Diploma/GED.Valid driver’s license and good driving record.Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.Ability to stand and walk on smooth and uneven terrain for extended periods.Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical activities such as bending and squatting.Good oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.Work Environment

The work environment includes fieldwork using advanced technologies such as GPS, laser and LiDAR scanning, and drones. The role involves outdoor work in all climates and may require travel up to 50% of the time. The company provides a vehicle, fuel card, and per diem for travel. Field teams receive special programs, including cell phone support, clothing and safety gear, and an annual work boot allowance. The company offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including health insurance, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), and continuing in-house education and training. The team typically meets at the office on Mondays and works at job sites the rest of the week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
