Possession of a current Louisiana Land Surveyor Intern certificate.
Job Concepts
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To apply scholastic theory and elementary surveying skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field and office in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from a Surveyor Supervisor or higher-level Engineer. May also receive functional supervision from a Surveyor 4 or 5 in the field. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians or other personnel engaged in survey work.
LOCATION OF WORK:
May be used by any state agency.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineering Technicians by the possession of a Louisiana Land Surveyor Intern certificate and the ability to perform a broader range of surveying principles.
Examples of Work
FUNCTION: This position works with the Road and Bridge Design Sections to supply topographic survey data for their use in roadway improvement plans and works with the Real Estate Section to supply right of way maps for their use in appraising and acquiring property necessary for roadway improvements. Works with the Bridge Maintenance Section to provide hydrographic survey data.
JOB DUTIES:While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTO policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
50% Receives survey request from Road and Bridge Design Sections and prepares work hour estimates for a consultant to perform the work.
20% Monitors consultants' work progress to ensure work is on time and in accordance with contract.
10% Investigates and resolves problems that arise during development of surveys.
5% Coordinates the review of hydrographic surveys, topographic surveys, property surveys, and right of way maps prepared by consultants to confirm that they meet format requirements.
5% Coordinates with Road Design, Bridge Design, and Bridge Maintenance Sections regarding completed surveys and maps stored on the ProjectWise Network Server.
May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster.
