Manager, Sustainability – Carbon Accounting
Are you a climate change or GHG specialist aiming to use your skills to help build a fast-growing sustainability and ESG practice in a global professional services firm? Work you’ll do
As a Manager, you will work with our Sustainability and KPI services team of specialists focused on sustainability strategy, assurance, risk management, measurement and analysis, and reporting. Our team advises companies on the evolving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) trends and market forces, with a focus on enhancing internal processes for collecting, analyzing, measuring, managing, and reporting non-financial information.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Leading the delivery of the following types of projects focused across various industries:GHG emissions inventory development and analysis (Scope 1, 2, 3 emission calculations) Decarbonization, net zero and science-based targets, energy transition, energy and carbon reporting, and analyticsDecarbonization pathway analysis including developing carbon abatement cost curves and long-term net zero transition strategiesProduct life cycle assessment (LCA) development to calculate impacts such as GHG emission, energy use, water use, consumption and scarcity, waste, and other impactsEuropean Union (EU) Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulatory reporting including quantifying Scope 1 process emissions for the iron, steel, aluminum, fertilizers, and cement industry sectors using the EU MethodMonitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) development and implementation to support GHG emissions regulatory complianceUsing your in-depth knowledge of GHG emissions accounting, LCA, product carbon footprint (PCF), decarbonization, and science-based target setting to enable you to act in the capacity of ‘trusted advisor’ for senior client stakeholdersHolding and continuing to develop fluent knowledge of GHG accounting, LCA/PCF development, science-based target setting, decarbonization, and the latest developments in energy and carbon transition and climate scenariosEducating and advising both internal and external stakeholders on climate change, translating complex information into understandable and actionable insightEngaging with external stakeholders on the topic of climate change, including synthesizing insights from external stakeholders and their publications into takeaways for key internal firm functions and marketplace eminenceWorking alongside others on climate change and sustainability matters across industries to provide expert insight on the impact and interactions of climate change on other sustainability areasActing in the capacity of ‘engagement manager’, taking ownership for all aspects of engagement delivery from project scoping and team selection through to delivery, risk & quality management, and budgetary controlUtilizing your subject matter knowledge to lead new business development opportunities and grow Deloitte’s climate change propositionIdentify opportunities for engagement value creation based on a deep understanding of client challenges and an independent point of viewDeveloping strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the firmCoach and develop the skills and capabilities of project team members and other junior team members to enhance their performance and support them in their career developmentEffectively managing ambiguous and unstructured problems and situationsMoving easily between big picture thinking and managing relevant detail, including:Anticipating stakeholder needs, and developing and discussing potential solutions, even before the stakeholder realizes they are requiredInitiating and leading open conversations with teams, clients and stakeholders to build trustThe team

Qualifications
Required
Preferred
Experience in professional services / consultancy in a client-facing capacity OR deep subject matter expertise, such as in decarbonization or energy transitionExperience in business development, leading teams and communicating technical subject matter to a non-technical audience Data analysis and visualization skills, comfortable working with large datasets, both in Excel and beyond. Experience using Tableau, ArcGIS, Python advantageousExperience producing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and LCA reports per relevant Product Category Rules (PCRs)Deep understanding of climate related emissions accounting, disclosure, and target-setting standards/frameworks, including SBTi, GHG Protocol, PCAF, CDP, and ISOExperience collecting life cycle inventory data, performing data quality assurance, and developing new datasets to fill existing data gapsDeep experience working with carbon intensive industries such as oil/gas, fertilizers, steel, iron, aluminum, cement, and chemicals with a deep knowledge of quantifying Scope 1 process emissions and familiarity of EU regulatory developments impacting these industriesExperience with US EPA 40 CFR Part 98 mandatory GHG reportingAbility to think laterally and adapt previous experience and solutions to new projectsAbility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team and environmentAbility to communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders, including C-Suite executives and industry leadersKnowledge or experience with federal and state incentives for LCA/PCF development such as the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), US EPA Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and similar incentives/regulatory requirements in the EUKnowledge of decarbonization strategy, planning and solutions at the corporate, government department and regional levelsUnderstanding of the climate change policy and regulatory landscapeExcellent written and oral business communication skills Experience working independently on multiple assignments or engagements, even in a virtual environmentA high aptitude for identifying, establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $108,430 to $242,580.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
