This role is responsible for leading and implementing climate-related initiatives, circular solutions, and product sustainability strategies. The position requires a deep understanding of sustainability practices, a passion for environmental stewardship, and the ability to drive positive change within our organization.

This is a hybrid position that currently works three days/week in our Northbrook, Illinois corporate office.


A day in the life as a Sustainability Manager…

Provide deep industry expertise and initiative implementationLead the design and implementation of priority initiatives, through active program development and project management responsibilities.Climate-Related Initiatives:Develop and implement a comprehensive climate action plan in alignment with organizational goalsMonitor and assess the company's carbon footprint, identifying areas for reduction and improvementStay informed about emerging climate-related regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance and proactively address future requirementsCircular Solutions:Champion the adoption of circular economy principles within the organization, fostering a culture of waste reduction and resource efficiencyCollaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement circular solutions for products and processesEstablish partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders to promote the use of sustainable materials and circular practices throughout the supply chainProduct Sustainability:Lead efforts to assess and improve the environmental impact of our products throughout their life cycleCollaborate with product development teams to integrate sustainable design principles and materials into new product developmentImplement and manage product sustainability certifications and standards, ensuring compliance and recognition for environmentally friendly productsEvaluate new sustainable material and packaging certifications, standards, and programs to inform decision making on integration into CBH product, packaging and sustainable materials strategyStakeholder Engagement:Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to communicate sustainability initiatives and foster a culture of responsibilityBuild and maintain strong relationships with relevant sustainability organizations, industry groups, and NGOs to stay abreast of industry trends and collaborate on shared sustainability goalsExternal Partnerships: Support engagement in relevant external stakeholder groupsReporting and Analytics:Develop and manage sustainability reporting frameworks to track and communicate progress on key performance indicatorsSupport data collection requirements and analytics for evaluating and comparing initiatives, considering environmental and financial implications, life cycle assessment, and other relevant factorsAnalyze data related to sustainability initiatives, identify trends, and provide insights to inform decision-making processesExpertise and comfort with interpreting quantitative data required to drive decision-making

What you’ll bring to the table…  

Strong understanding of sustainability standards, certifications, and reporting frameworksExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage and influence stakeholders at all levelsAbility to lead and inspire cross-functional teams toward sustainable practices and goalsKnowledge of relevant environmental regulations and a commitment to staying informed about emerging trends in sustainability


We’d love to hear from you if you have… 

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, business, or a related field5 years experience in designing and implementing sustainability initiatives, with a focus on climate-related projects, circular economy, and product sustainabilityRetail knowledge background is strongly preferred (direct retail or consultative)
