Who you will work with

Sustainability (which covers environmental, social, and economic justice issues) is an increasingly important topic for our clients. In the Sustainability Practice, we help our clients make critical decisions that impact the core of their business strategy, related to sustainability strategy, the environmental and social impact of operations, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability-related growth and cost opportunities. We work to ensure that sustainability efforts are anchored in business fundamentals and demonstrate a clear return on investment – and that those efforts are then firmly embedded within our clients' strategy and operations.

The Practice Senior Manager is a critical member of the Sustainability Practice. They will have the opportunity to support and lead efforts within the Carbon Transition solution and/or other strategic priority projects, as well as support day-to-day operations. This role requires close collaboration with Bain’s Sustainability Partners and other experts across Bain globally. 

Responsibilities may include supporting commercialization, creating key practice content and presentations, developing IP, developing data-driven strategies and innovation solutions, and deploying cutting-edge techniques and tools that help clients accelerate their growth and reach full potential. The Practice Senior Manager effectively partners with the Practice Director to drive the process and content generation for key deliverables, prioritize effectively, and streamline and improve ways of working, in collaboration and coordination with multiple, often senior, stakeholders across the business. The scope of work is flexible, but will likely fall into the following main categories.

What you’ll do 

Solution design, development, deployment, and delivery 

Directly guide the process and thinking for the solution team; design and implement effective feedback loops with case delivery teams; identify patterns coming from client-side insights to feed into solution strategyAdvise case teams and clients on case delivery including occasional on-the-ground support, demonstrating deep expertise on solution spikesPartner with Marketing team on Solution Marketing plan; work with partners on specific pieces of contentDevelop elements of IP, including global reports, research briefs, market overviews and solution/topic specific materials tailored to specific sectors/industries Provide direct solution support on select opportunities Advise case teams at a deep level on how to integrate partnerships and tools in their project; design and deliver onboarding for case teams Build elements of training materials on latest solution IP and interlock customized IP Serve as primary contact for ecosystem partners, in coordination with the partnership liaison Partner and the Business Development team, including supporting case teams in scoping partnership products appropriately, driving commercial traction, improving our delivery model, and working with partners directly to improve the partnershipWork closely with benchmarking team to prioritize opportunities and integrate outputs into IP or selling materials


Solution full potential 

Manage annual development or refresh of Solution Full Potential plan informed by competitive positioning, market disruption, and evolving customer needs; serve as central owner for the solution backlog, recommending prioritization and resourcingLead solution budget, suggesting prioritization of investments and resourcesDevelop and lead plan for commercializing IP, including timing, channels, etc. 

Commercialization & selling support 

Design and operationalize a robust process for collecting and analyzing win/loss data, including competitor intelligence, participate in debriefs, and ensure insights are efficiently sharedMaintain ownership of a best-in-class 80% configured proposal and a curated repository of best-of proposals; guide team members on what to update and where to incorporate new approaches/examples Manage the build-out and deployment of diagnostic tools

Provide deep support and expertise for highest priority opportunities, including sales plays through proposals – play a senior advisor and thought partner role

Oversee expert tracking, pull out insights and make recommendations on how to improve expert utilizationDrive prioritization of pipeline and commercial supportDevelop commercial campaigns and drive process to identify client opportunities, key follow-ups, etc.  Train case team senior managers and associate partners on Carbon and Energy topics

Practice communications and teaming

Work effectively cross-practice; proactively share and solicit information across practice, focusing on the key implicationsTrain and informally coach junior team members, as appropriate

About you

Education

Required: Bachelor of Arts or equivalent undergraduate degree with strong academic credentialsMBA is a plus

 

Experience 

Current or former top-tier management consultant or equivalent experienceDemonstrated problem solving and organizational skills, and a proven self-starter (comfortable with what could be a remote supervisor and team)Knowledge of, and experience with, leading business and analytics toolsAbility to structure and lead complex business research and analysis in fast-paced environment, as well as the skills to drive to pragmatic business insightsExperience and proficiency creating high quality presentations
