The mission of the Sidewalk Program is to support the agency’s goal by providing for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people by making sidewalks safe and accessible for all pedestrians.
Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be required to supervise Associate Level 1 supervisors, Highway & Sewer, and Apprentice Highway & Sewer Inspectors with varying responsibilities and complexity of tasks. Additionally, the candidate will be tasked with representing the Unit by coordinating with other DOT units and agencies to resolve issues ranging from standard defective conditions to complex multifaceted problems; create and implement training programs for new and existing inspectors. Evaluates training needs of staff and recommends changes for additional needs; responsible for ensuring that all cost estimate/survey requests and complaints are assigned to staff and submitted based on established due dates and benchmarks; monitors productivity of assigned team and issues reports to upper management staff; may perform field staff audits for complicated issues and discuss results with employees; delegate and follows up with Associate Inspector Level 1 subordinate staff to assign to the field staff and attend site visits for emergency conditions, high priority requests and complaints, etc.
Qualifications
1. Six years of full-time paid experience in the construction and/or repair of roads and sewers, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
2. Four years of experience, as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, plus two years of education in an accredited college or technical school in a program specializing in the construction or repair of roads and sewers, or education toward a baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Architecture or Engineering Technology with a specialization in the area of roads or sewers; or
3. At least one year of experience, as described in "1" above, which must have been in a supervisory capacity, plus completion of an approved five year apprenticeship program in highway or sewer inspection; or
4. Completion of three years of apprenticeship in highway or sewer inspection plus either three years of experience as described in "1" above, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, or one year of experience as described in "1" above, which must have been in a supervisory capacity and two years of education as described in "2" above; or
5. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", "3", or "4" above.
All candidates must have one year of experience as described in "1" above, which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
