System (1D) Simulation Intern

Job Summary:
In the age of Internet of Things, Big Data, Mechatronics, Electric Vehicles, Autonomous Motor Vehicles, simulation products and knowledge are required in the multi-disciplinary intersection of mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, electromagnetics and control system. With a new product family, Altair is now following the model-based development of mechatronics systems, and co-simulation with 3D physical models. We are looking for a summer intern - Systems Engineering, to assist with the creation of application models and/or algorithms related to electrified systems including battery-electric and hybrid electric vehicles (BEV, HEV, xEV)
What You Will Do:
1. Support the development and testing of simulation of battery cell, module, and pack electro-thermal models and parameter identification algorithms built with Altair system simulation tools, Altair Compose and Altair Twin Activate and potentially integrate with complementary tools in Altair software suite
2. Support the development and testing of simulation of battery controls methods related to Battery Management Systems (BMS) and Thermal Management Systems (TMS) built with Altair system simulation tools, Altair Compose and Altair Twin Activate and potentially integrate with complementary tools in Altair software suite
3. Research requirements and approaches for modeling physical systems, model parameter identification and/or controls algorithms related to SOx and/or thermal control
4. Document and present results
5. Provide feedback for your experiences for QA, documentation and software enhancement
What You Will Need:
Basics:
1. Pursuing master's and/or Ph.D engineering studies in mechanical/ mechatronics / electrical engineering / control engineering
2. University coursework/projects related to non-linear dynamics, numeric methods, and/or system level modeling, especially for e-mobility system modeling (batteries, motors, power electronics, etc)>
3. Good verbal and written communications skills (English)
4. Capable of working both independently and as a team
5. Experience with CAE software for system simulations (Altair Compose, Altair Twin Activate, MATLAB / Simulink, Octave, Scicos, GT-Suite, etc. and / or Dymola, SimulationX, AMEsim, other Modelica tools)
Preferred:
1. Battery coursework and/or lab experience
2. E-Motor/E-powertrain/Power Electronics
3. Modelica/SimScape physical modeling
4. Scripting/programming language (Compose OML, MATLAB, Octave, python, C/C++, etc).
5. HyperWorks software
