System Development Engineer II, FEDS
Do you enjoy helping U.S. Intelligence Community and Defense agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve unique technical problems? Would you like to do this using the latest cloud computing technologies and become a core part of the largest cloud infrastructure on the planet? AWS is seeking a System Development Engineer to own and advance mission critical services in our Amazon Dedicated Clouds (ADC).

The US ADC team is hiring for a System Development Engineer (SysDE) II to support FEDS (File, Edge, and Streaming Services) team. You'll design, deploy, monitor, and automate infrastructure, tools and systems to provide a highly-available and resilient platform for our customers' and our team's workloads.

This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems. AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.

The team is responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining Amazon EFS, FSx, S3 on Outposts, and Streaming Services in US-ADC regions.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and must currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance. The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph and satisfy other security related requirements.

Key job responsibilities
- In this role you must be proficient in systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.
- You must be capable of reading, writing and debugging software in order to solve problems and improve the systems.
- Design, deploy, monitor, and automate infrastructure, tools and systems to provide a highly-available and resilient platform for our customers' and our team's workloads.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and fixes production software issues in coordination with the service owners from the commercial region and applies them in the Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) space.
- This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week in every six. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

A day in the life
On a “typical” day, our engineers may dive deep to find the root cause of a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending in the wrong direction, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational processes. As a member of our team you will join a dedicated group of engineers who provide Build and operations support, and innovate to automate operational tasks.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Arlington, VA, USA | Denver, CO, USA | Herndon, VA, USA
