System Development Manager, Fulfillment Optimization DevOps
Description Lead a central support team optimizing Amazon's fulfillment processes for speed, efficiency, and reliability. Oversee critical systems determining customer promises, and optimal fulfillment plans to meet the Promise. You'll have technical ownership of application support operations in a demanding environment. You'll lead a team of DevOps engineers managing mission-critical systems, driving improvements and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate has experience managing software support organizations, strong customer focus, and excellent project management skills. You'll collaborate across teams to achieve Operational Excellence and scale our business. Drive internal projects, build custom tools, and create operational run-books. Serve as a customer ambassador in engineering, ensuring customer-centric solutions. Partner with development teams to build reliability into code and scale operations. Continuously improve processes, eliminate waste, and drive productivity gains in large-scale distributed systems. Articulate achievements through data and drive data-driven decision-making. Key job responsibilities • Manage and develop a team of talented DevOps engineers to foster a culture of innovation and excellence. • Play vital role in helping us leverage supporting and developing technologies on any platform to increase global collaboration, increase efficiency, and meet our controller ship requirements • Directly work with development teams to improve the applications built by conducting technical mitigations and deep dives on reported issues to find the cause and corrective actions • Work with our other technical teams to ensure the design is effective and complements of our in house custom developed applications across platform stacks (including SQL, Java/.NET/C#/Perl/Python) or SaaS • Work on proactive detection mechanism to report dip in software performance by building efficient metrics/monitors/alarms using our in-house tools • Build tools and automations to optimize the system, simplify processes, etc. Basic Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience - 7+ years of Software Development or Systems experience, including hands-on development work and object-oriented design - 3+ years of proven track record of high-scale hiring and talent management on teams of multiple disciplines/job families - Systems engineering experience (e.g., virtualization, hardware design, operating system tuning), experience building scalable infrastructure software or distributed systems - Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations Preferred Qualifications - Strong computer engineering fundamentals - Leading development life cycle processes and best practices, especially in the areas of deployment automation and monitoring - Strong program and product management skills - Experience with distributed systems at scale, including AWS platforms, services and design patterns Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
