System Director Strategy & Planning
Overview The System Director, Strategy drives the development and planning of strategic initiatives aligned with the organization's overarching goals on behalf of the Chief Strategy Officer. This leader works collaboratively across the organization to identify growth opportunities, oversee key strategy projects, long term planning, and integrate innovative methodologies to enhance operational and financial performance. The role combines strategy development, industry insight, data-driven decision-making, and market analysis to position the organization for competitive success while fostering cross-functional alignment and engagement with senior leadership. Responsibilities Job Description Strategic Leadership & Execution: Lead multiple enterprise-wide strategy initiatives ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and long-term goals. Enable and guide cross-functional project teams, fostering collaboration and accountability to achieve defined objectives. Oversee the development of and updates to the long-term planning and associated processes, communication, and structures. Purposefully partner and communicate with key stake holders across the organization to drive successful planning, roadmap creation and alignment. Navigate complex organizational decision-making processes to gain alignment and drive successful outcomes. Ensure a seamless hand-off to operational leadership at the appropriate stage in each initiative's lifecycle, supporting alignment to annual plans and sustained success. Strategic Thought Leadership: Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), contributing to the development and refinement of enterprise strategy. Ability to build alliances and lead through influence. Monitor and analyze industry and market trends to identify opportunities and challenges impacting the organization. Facilitate strategic planning discussions with diverse stakeholder groups as part of the organization’s strategy refresh and planning cycles. Define and oversee the development of quantitative metrics and methodologies to track and report on the progress of strategic initiatives. Present strategies and progress updates to senior leadership, ensuring alignment and buy-in across the organization. Innovation Integration: Champion the identification and deployment of innovative solutions aligned with enterprise strategy, leveraging internal and external resources. Build and maintain expertise in innovation sectors critical to the organization’s strategic goals. Establish and nurture relationships with innovative companies, investors, and key participants in the innovation ecosystem to source new opportunities. Support external innovators in aligning their solutions with organizational needs and navigating deployment processes. Market Insights & Analysis: Oversee/Guide the evaluation of consumer intelligence analyses, environmental assessments, and competitive intelligence provided by internal and external teams. Analyze synthesized insights to develop actionable recommendations that inform enterprise-wide strategies and decision-making. Provide system-wide guidance on leveraging data to anticipate market trends and adjust strategies proactively to maintain competitive advantage. Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership: Collaborate with senior executives and functional leaders across the organization to align strategies and ensure cohesive execution. Communicate strategic frameworks and initiatives effectively to diverse audiences, fostering alignment and shared ownership. Mentor and develop team members, fostering professional growth and building a high-performing team capable of delivering on organizational priorities. Qualifications Education Master's degree in business, Health Administration, or related field Experience 8+ years of experience within large integrated healthcare systems (hospital systems, ambulatory practices and Integrated Delivery Networks of at least $3B annual revenue), driving and executing initiatives impacting health care financing, business development and strategy development. 5+ years of leadership experience at Director level with dedicated team focused on developing, managing, and enabling strategist and analyst teams to achieve business objectives. Expertise in building retail health capabilities is a plus within healthcare delivery as defined above. Demonstrable evidence of communication skills in both verbal and written format.
