System Engineer
Description: Duties: This position is for an RF Field Technician on the Wireless Connectivity Team and will be responsible for installation, support, and maintenance of end user land mobile radio equipment, radio infrastructure, cellular modem equipment, cellular booster infrastructure, satellite communications equipment, and other related technologies, in the Western Lower Peninsula of MI. Day to day duties include responding to trouble tickets submitted by users, preventive maintenance tasks, installation of systems, acting as customer interface, and responding to technical needs after hours and during storm response. Technologies include RF, land mobile radio, microwave, radio dispatch equipment, cellular boosters, cellular modems, satellite communications, and other similar technologies. This position will be the primary field support person for an area (Western lower pensinsula) of Client service area. This position will also be part of an on-call rotation for after-hours response. To minimize response time, the selected candidate for this position must reside within the service area (within approximately 1 hour of drive time from Grand Rapids). In this role, you will: Performs installation, configuration, advanced diagnostics, analysis, repairs, or replacement of hardware for end user radios, base stations, cellular modems, bi-directional amplifiers, satellite comm. equipment, and related components. Ensures equipment is properly maintained and tested. Performs on-site RF and cellular coverage studies. Assists with and updates technical documentation including drawings, inventories, and instructional documents. Provides technical (1st/2nd Level) break-fix support to end users for tickets escalated from the Service Desk, Information Security, or other support groups. Provides timely responses to client and management requests. Gives status updates on such requests on a regular basis. Monitors the Client Support ticket queue to ensure that tickets are addressed in a timely manner. Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary Requires use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement Skills: Knowledge and experience with: Installing and support of wireless and similar technologies. Radio system or end user equipment support. Cellular modems and boosters. Participating in large technical projects. General IT skills. Strong communication skills with experience communicating to customers and management. Use of hand tools Preferred experience with: Installation, troubleshooting, and support of land mobile radio, cellular boosters, cellular modems, satellite comms, or microwave. RF test equipment. Basic electrical systems. Vehicle electrical wiring. Education: Associates degree related to engineering, IT, or other related technical field OR Equivilant job/military experience in RF/wireless technologies.
