The role involves working on critical systems such as PCOS, CCQAS, DMHRSi, EAS IV, ESSENCE, and PHIMT, which are essential for managing healthcare claims, provider credentialing, human resources, cost allocation, disease surveillance, and health information management. The ideal candidate will contribute to application development and sustainment, focusing on delivering high-quality solutions across ten core IT domains, including configuration management, cybersecurity, digital transformation, software engineering, and application support. This position requires expertise in agile methodologies and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic military healthcare environment.   Arlluk Technology Solutions is seeking an experienced System Engineer to join our team supporting the Defense Health Agency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems within a healthcare environment. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of the MHS infrastructure and applications.   Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to: The System Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT systems and infrastructure supporting MHS applications. Key responsibilities include: Design and implement complex system architectures that meet the needs of MHS applications and users. Develop and maintain system integration strategies to ensure seamless operation across multiple platforms and technologies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design optimal system solutions. Implement and maintain system monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools to ensure high availability and performance. Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to optimize system resources and efficiency. Design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical MHS systems. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve system performance and capabilities. Develop and maintain system documentation, including architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, and runbooks. Participate in the change management process, assessing the impact of system changes and upgrades. Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain robust system security measures. Troubleshoot complex system issues and provide expert-level support for critical incidents. Mentor junior team members and share knowledge of best practices in system engineering. Education and Experience: Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 5-7 years of experience in system engineering, or Master's degree in a relevant field with 3-5 years of experience in system engineering, or PhD in a relevant field with 0-2 years of experience in system engineering Required Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of system architecture and design principles Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) Proficiency in Windows Server and Linux operating systems Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) Understanding of database management systems and storage technologies Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus) Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent communication and documentation abilities Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance Desired Skills and Competencies: Experience working in government or military healthcare environments Knowledge of healthcare IT standards and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FISMA) Familiarity with ITIL framework and IT service management principles Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines Familiarity with big data technologies and analytics platforms Experience with identity and access management systems Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices Knowledge of disaster recovery and high availability solutions Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management tools Working Environment & Conditions This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.    This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate.
