Systems Engineering Discipline Team Lead
Thales Training & Simulation UK (T&S UK) is in an exciting period of growth and we’re looking for a Systems Engineering Discipline Team Lead to inspire and drive excellence in our expanding engineering function.
About the Role
In this newly created position, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Systems Engineering discipline. This is an exciting opportunity to:
Manage and coach a talented team of systems engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
Leverage your expertise in systems engineering or engineering delivery management to ensure successful delivery of complex projects.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance processes, tools, and methodologies to support growth and operational efficiency.
Our simulators and training services are used to train armed forces across the world, ranging from fighter pilots and mission crew to front-line soldiers; they help our customers to achieve and maintain operational effectiveness and equip the next generation military personnel. We provide nations with products ranging from Computer Based Training (CBT), through to full-motion flight simulators for aircraft and armoured vehicles. One of our areas of growth is digital twin virtual representation products including environments and digital/synthetic facilities that exploit real and synthetic capabilities in an integrated and complementary way. Key responsibilities:
Manage and develop people/skills and allocate the right people with the right skills to product and project teamsSupport the deployment of engineering practices and tools, tailored to reach the required maturity, according to project/product delivery challengesWork with the discipline team members to support them to be efficient and effective: identify knowledge and skills gaps and associated actions to support continuous improvementWork closely with Head of Systems & Hardware Engineering and other Discipline Team Leads to deliver best practice engineering approaches, improvements and intended outcomesCoach and mentor a team of engineers at all stages of their careers; from apprentices and graduates to experienced subject matter expertsContribute to Bids/Products and Projects peer reviews to reduce technical/engineering risks and increase confidence to deliver Support team members through a period of change Encourage adoption of the new technologiesCapitalise and share knowledge and assetsReady to Take the Lead?

Technical Competencies
Understanding of the importance of measuring engineering maturity and executing continuous improvement plansEffectiveness in managing stakeholders and driving improvement through positive change in a complex organisation whilst also maintaining a delivery focusAbility to adopt a holistic approach to analyse a system, focusing on the way the constituent parts interrelate and how systems work over time and within the context of larger systems Understanding of system capabilities through functional, logical and value analytics Understanding of the importance of requirements definition and managementAbility to adopt an Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach as a basis for architecture Understanding of Test and Evaluation Integration / Verification / Validation / Qualification (IVVQ), Reliability / Maintainability / Availability / Testability (RAMT), configuration management, human factors, user experience, cybersecurity and product safety and associated norms and standards Acting as a role model; having enthusiasm about learning and sharing knowledge of both skills and technology and the benefits this brings to individual development and organisational capabilityAbility to empower, support and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach and mobilising influencing and “team first” skills Adopting a lean management approach and apply Agile principles to the management and development of your teamDesirable
