Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead the system engineering organization and maintain a high standard of system engineering excellence. In this role, you will be responsible for staffing, fostering company culture, creating and maintaining system engineering processes, and providing technical subject matter expertise. The system engineering team is composed of engineers with various roles across aerospace and defense programs, including IPT leads. This role requires a combination of technical skills, soft skills, and leadership experience and will support manned, unmanned, and optionally piloted aircraft customers and programs.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure the system engineering team is staffed appropriately to meet company growth and business objectives.Lead hiring, resource allocation, and performance management for the system engineering organization.Provide system engineering team members with feedback and recognition.Generate and perform annual performance reviews.Collaborate with leadership and business development to forecast system engineering requirements and capability growth areas.Continuously improve system engineering processes and methodologies.Oversee system engineering development activities including planning, requirements, design, implementation, verification, and validation.Analyze customer/stakeholder requirements, decompose requirements, derive requirements, and allocate requirements to system and subsystem elements.Develop system architectures for new and existing systems.Conduct trade studies and perform design research to determine optimal requirements and architectures.Develop system/subsystem interface definitions, system schematics, and system design documentation.Develop subsystem and system test plans and reports.Execute integration and test activities including benchtop, hardware-in-the-loop, subsystem, system acceptance and verification testing, and flight testing.Assist in the preparation of proposals and presentation materials.Lead or support system engineering technical reviews (SETR).Travel to customer locations as needed (expect >25% travel at times).Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering10+ years of experience working in a highly technical, aerospace-related industry10+ years of experience in a Systems Engineering position and 2+ years of experience managing a teamFamiliarity with all phases of the Systems Engineering design process: ConOps, requirements development, software/system architecture, system integration and test, verification and validationAbility to acquire and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higherAdditional Skills & QualificationsSharp analytical abilitiesExcellent communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a dynamic environmentDemonstrated technical and personnel leadership capabilitiesExperience within the Defense and/or Aerospace industryExperience in aircraft systems is a must; experience in unmanned aircraft is a plusWork Environment
On-site in Round Rock, with some hybrid flexibility. Expect >25% travel at times.
