We are seeking a creative, team building systems engineer to help us lead the development and integration of sophisticated electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) systems using model-based systems engineering (MBSE). As the lead of the Architecture Working Group, you will help lead a hardworking team of engineers who engage in systems engineering, trade studies, requirements and architecture development. The sponsor will rely on you for vision and forward thinking to pioneer MBSE processes and lead how Digital Engineering is done! You will assist in establishing and communicating standards for use of MBSE, technical contributions and collaboration, provide technical direction and ensure timeliness, quality and technical integrity of work. Provide systems engineering thought leadership focusing on architecture development and analysis for EO/IR systems. Apply tools and lead other domain experts to evaluate architecture and allocation of system requirements. Develop observations and recommendations on system engineering processes based on MBSE/digital engineering standard methodologies. Participate in design and requirements reviews, as well as risk boards. Apply your past experience, while leading/coordinating research, studies, and analysis on current and future planning and coordination system capabilities, as well as provide supporting data and associated recommendations to advise program sponsors. Work with government sponsor, industry, academic, and government laboratory staff to conduct research, trade studies, and engineering analyses to identify and apply promising new technologies to sophisticated EO/IR system applications. Participate in the evolution of our robust MBSE methodology, applicable to a wide variety of systems. Whether it's fielded equipment that needs new capability or an idea that exists only on a napkin, you will help us define the best SE tools for the job. You will make improvements to processes, recommend standard presentation artifacts, take chances to innovate, and teach others how to use the methodology we have developed. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Have a B.S. degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physical Science or related field. Have a minimum of 7+ years of relevant MBSE and SE experience. Have experience leading multi-functional/cross-organizational engineering teams. Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels of staff. Excellent organizational, follow through, and attention to detail skills. Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing. Ability and willingness to travel to work with prime contractors and Government Labs. Hold an active Secret or higher security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have an M.S. in Systems Engineering or a related field. Have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience leading multi-functional/cross-organizational teams. Have knowledge of ship-mounted sensor systems and communications networks, specifically EO/IR sensor systems. Have knowledge of DoD Planning, Programming and Budgeting, Acquisition Decision, Research and Development, Test and Evaluation systems. Why work at APL? The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
