The Windows 7 operating system upgrade project goal is to install a standard Windows 7 Enterprise desktop image on all DEP PC workstation systems that meet the hardware requirements of Windows 7. This upgrade would be done as an in-place upgrade, using a fully automated process with little or no user or IT Helpdesk staff intervention. Theses upgrades will be done using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, Microsoft Users State Migration Tool 4.0, and Viewfinity Privilege Manager. Migrate the DEP to Windows 7 in order to:
Reduce the cost of maintaining the desktop environment by:
removing manual tasks by increasing automation. This will reduce the labor component and refocus support staff time on more important functions.
Simplify the process for introducing new hardware models into the organization.
Modular build process such that applications and configuration changes can be easily snapped in and out of the build.
Ability to maintain applications on all workstation computers in the environment using a common tool.
Provide a standardized desktop on the latest operating system
Increasing desktop security by removing local administration privileges using the Viewfinity software to define polices for exceptions that require elevated permissions.
Provided centralized administration for the desktop deployment process.
Provide user data protection during the build/upgrade.
Provide users with a standard look and feel.
Provide application packages that can redistributed outside the OS upgrade, eliminating the need for manual installation by IT staff.
Years of Relevant Experience: 3-5 years in desired environment
Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study
Role Description:All roles specified in SS 1 plus:
Plan and manage network operating system upgrades.
Actively participate in analyzing and evaluating emerging software and hardware technologies/standards.
Serve as a liaison between teams for network planning and connectivity.
Develop appropriate functional and usability standards for the environments.
Plan or assist in planning network environment, including supporting existing structure and enhancements.
Plan and coordinate testing changes, upgrades and new and standard products, ensuring systems will operate correctly in current and future environment.
Anticipate, identify, track and resolve issues and risks affecting own work and work of the Application or Environment team. Develop contingency plans as necessary.
Analyze the functional and/or technical impact of new product releases.
Advanced scripting and programming skills, including languages that run on specified platform.
Anticipate and resolve issues specific to the team.
Determine time estimates and schedule for own work and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Identify and track issues, risks and action items."
