Your role and responsibilitiesSystems & Controls Engineer positions offered by ABB Inc. (Mechanicsville, VA). Perform hardware and software module design consisting of infrastructure and control logic for electrical traction converters, auxiliary power sources, battery chargers and E-mobility systems. Support automation of increasingly complex manufacturing tasks in the industry. Build large modular software systems integrating proprietary and open-source libraries to devise solutions for secure deployment onto embedded systems that run traction systems in Electrical Trains. Perform system analysis and design of real-time safety-critical purpose-built automation systems for integrating traction converters, auxiliary power sources and third-party process control systems utilizing CPUs, GPUs, and related systems.
Qualifications for the roleRequires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field and the following skillset through coursework or project work: programing in Siemens, AB, SolidWorks, E-plan, C, C++, C#, Java, Codesys Python, JavaScript, or Modeling language UML; engineering or developing automation platforms involving motion controls, edge devices, cloud, and user experience technologies; using industrial Fieldbus, including Modbus, CAN, TRDP, EtherNet/IP and ProfiNet; working in mechatronics or industrial motion and automation processes; designing Codesys-based projects for electrical traction converters, auxiliary power sources, battery chargers and E-mobility systems; deploying software and running successful commissioning; and leading software development activities for robotics, mechatronics or industrial motion and automation. Position reports to Mechanicsville, VA office. Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy, but must live within commuting distance of stated office. Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently.
