Position Description\:

This Systems Engineer - Data Analysis position supports the NASA Space Launch System (SLS) Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) labs from Marshall Space Flight center in Huntsville Alabama. The HWIL labs include the System Integration and Test Facility (SITF), Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL), and multiple Software Development Facilities (SDFs) used to verify the integrated avionics and software systems for the SLS rocket. All these labs and emulators include numerous complex real-time Software Models integrated with Electrical/Avionics systems to achieve detailed simulation of the SLS rocket.

The Systems Engineer - Data Analysis will design and execute system level analysis plans from a collection of requirements for NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS). These analysis plans are designed to verify functionality of the avionics and software systems on the SLS. Data from executed tests along with proprietary tools are used for the data analysis and avionics verification. A secondary function of this position will be to design, execute, and debug SLS system level avionics tests from a collection of requirements. These test cases have a software component that execute in various labs including the SIL to verify the integrated avionics. This is an excellent opportunity to develop expertise with NASA SLS avionics.

This position is responsible for providing services and support for the Software Systems Engineering Branch (ES51). This branch is responsible for the requirements, test, analysis, configuration management, systems engineering, and “day of launch” operations support for the Space Launch System (SLS) Integrated Avionics Test Facilities (IATF).  This engineering support will be conducted within an existing operational Government owned and managed facility housed at MSFC.

This is an entry to mid-level position that requires broad and “on the ground” technical capability to design and execute data analysis of real-time HWIL systems to verify avionics functionality. Good project management skills are needed to define and plan the activities. The ability to track and report progress and timely completion of milestones is essential. Problem solving, debug, and hands-on use of test equipment will be required. This position will also require the development and execution of simulation-based tests and provide engineering support to augment a team of Government engineers.

Activities involved with this position include\:

Become a subject matter expert on a library of requirements and how to analyze them in test data. This will include in depth knowledge of the requirements and how the SLS is supposed to work. Design and execute analysis plans from executed test data of HWIL simulation systems. Participate in defining and designing requirements or Detailed Verification Objectives (DVO). Write technical documents including analysis plans and reports to address verification requirements Perform data interpretation, assessment, and analysis of HWIL simulation systems.  Evaluate test data to correlate with test findings and investigate potential anomalies Communicate, (written and verbal), clear and crisp insights and observations of performance of integrated systems Present and defend analyses and reports during peer level reviews Work with associated Systems Engineering teams, Software Development teams, Test teams, and Electrical Integration teams to ensure tests and analyses meet technical intent and appropriately verify system capabilities and behaviors. Design, execute, debug, and analyze test plans, including pre-test setups such as instrumentation, data acquisition, software loading/configuration and post-test activities such as data archiving and data analysis. Develop test case software using a language such as Python, XML, or C. Use a Linux based platform. Familiar with basic Linux commands including vi. Participate in or conduct meetings in support of the above activities Be an ambitious self-starter and product owner of a library of avionics system tests. Be willing to initiate contact with other groups to resolve problems. Work well within a team environment. *
