**Key Job Elements:**
• System Design & Integration:
o Develop end-to-end architectures for telematics software systems, ensuring compatibility with railroad industry standards;
o Lead integration efforts across hardware, software, and network systems;
o Work with Product Managers to interview stakeholders, including corporate customers, ensuring that stakeholder needs are clearly defined and understood;
o Work with Product Owners, System Architects and Test Engineers to define functional and non-functional requirements for the Uptime product;
• Development & Deployment:
o Collaborate with software engineering teams to establish and ensure systems meet performance and scalability requirements;
o Work with DevOps engineers to define deployment pipelines, emphasizing security, reliability, and minimal downtime;
• Testing & Validation:
o Work directly with test engineers to establish and execute automated and manual test cases to validate system functionality under real-world conditions;
o Provide guidance for automated testing for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines;
• Monitoring & Optimization:
o Develop monitoring tools and dashboards for tracking system performance and reliability;
o Identify bottlenecks and recommend optimizations to improve system uptime and data throughput;
• Compliance & Documentation:
o Ensure systems comply with relevant regulatory requirements, especially security standards such as ISO 27001;
o Maintain thorough documentation, including system designs, test plans, and operational procedures.
**Qualifications and Experience:**
Required
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in telematics, IoT, or similar domains;
• Proficiency in system architecture design and tools (e.g., UML, SysML, or equivalent);
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS;
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, MQTT, CAN bus), wireless communication technologies (4G/5G, LTE, satellite), and client-server architecture;
• Expertise in DevOps practices, including CI/CD and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Preferred
• Familiarity with railroad industry standards and operational practices;
• Experience with telematics platforms, such as Geotab or Samsara;
• Certifications in systems engineering (e.g., INCOSE CSEP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect);
• Knowledge of data analytics tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, Spark, Tableau).
