Systems Engineer

NOTE:  This is a hybrid position with the expectation to work 2 days in the office and 3 days remotely each week.  


Position Overview:

 

Reporting to the Director, Technology & Support, and as an integral part of Questel’s Global Information Technology department, this role is responsible for designing, building, and supporting an enterprise production and DR environments that hosts a variety of on-premises and cloud-hosted infrastructure – including Management, Design, Maintenance of physical datacenter equipment and systems in the Wilmington, DE and Ashburn, VA locations.  In addition, the role will coordinate with other Questel IT resources on a global level for support, maintenance, security, and auditing of existing and new systems, in both on-premises and cloud environments.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Maintain and upgrade current IT infrastructure, including servers, network, storage, desktops, cloud, DR environments, including (but not limited to): DataCenter Support and systems configuration (cabling, network infrastructure, servers, routers/switches etc.) Virtualization, and Enterprise Storage management Technical planning, documentation, and project management Server/Device security hardening Design, implement, and test new and replacement enterprise systems and infrastructure Troubleshoot software and hardware-related issues involving daily interaction with staff Assist with supporting and designing, documenting, and testing backup and DR/BCP strategies Be on-call for after-hours systems issues to support international offices activities – 24/7 availability Work on special projects and other duties as assigned by management

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or any combination of education, experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  

5+ years professional Information Technology or other similar industry experience required  Strong knowledge of computer server hardware components and maintenance (video cards, motherboards, RAM, CPUs, hard drives, servers  Dell server hardware, and remote management systems in general  Virtual hosting technologies (VMware (ESXi and vSphere 8.0 and above), Hyper-V, and KVM)  Strong knowledge of Windows (10, 11, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019+), (Mac OSX, and Linux (CentOS) systems experience a plus), and integrating them into Virtualized and Windows-based AD and Azure networks  Experience with Citrix XenDesktop/Xenapp/Netscaler VDA/VDI products  In-depth understanding of the maintenance and administration of Active Directory/Azure based LDAP domains and components (DNS/DHCP, Group policy, SCCM/WSUS)  General LAN/WAN and internet connectivity, troubleshooting, and documentation  Supporting SNMP network monitoring and reporting type products  Server/Device security hardening  Demonstrated skills in project management, negotiations and problem solving  Ability to effectively multi-task in stressful situations  Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team  Complete heavy workload within an established time frame  High motivation, willingness to take initiative and complete assignments  Participate in a culture of responsiveness to strengthen relationship and ensure the needs and time of others are met and respected  Mentoring of junior team members  Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills   Excellent written and verbal communication skills  Ability to discuss highly technical concepts to a variety of audiences, including executive level and technical decision-makers.  Fluent in English 


Preferred Skills:


Experience with ITIL frameworks, SLA’s, and concepts around services  Relevant Industry Certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Citrix)  Experience, knowledge configuring and supporting routers, firewalls, switches, NAS systems:  Networking (Cisco, Extreme), Firewalls (Cisco ASA, Sonicwall, Fortinet), Storage (Netapp)  Configuring and maintaining network monitoring and security products (SIEM, IPS/IDS, Vulnerability scanning/testing, and Antivirus systems)  Experience with management and maintaining of Azure and/or AWS Cloud Environments  Containerization and Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, VMware Tanzu)  Experience with SOC2/ISO 27001 auditing, or other standards-based auditing certifications  Fluency in a second language, other than English, is preferred but not required
