JOB SUMMARY\n
The Systems Engineer is an Infrastructure team member skilled in system administration who shares in the responsibility of the daily operations and support of the City of Conroe's infrastructure. This position will implement, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, secure and monitor all aspects of the City's server and storage infrastructure both on premise and cloud, and may assist in maintaining network infrastructure. This position has a major impact on the entire organization and requires a high-level understanding of the City and attention to detail. This position both monitors and, at times, performs all the duties of the Infrastructure team. May have on-call responsibilities and rotating shifts. This position reports to the IT Infrastructure Security Manager.\n
QUALIFICATIONS\n
Education and Experience:\n\nBachelor's degree and 2 years on-the-job experience in IT; or equivalent 6 years on-the-job experience in IT.\nPreferred - Experience in server hardware and OS support including LAN\/WAN and server virtualization and industry certifications such as: CompTIA Net+\/Server+, Microsoft, VCP, MCSA\/MCSE\/MCP or comparable certificate as determined by the supervisor. Industry certification is mandatory for the position, and if the certification expires, becomes obsolete or ceased to be offered by the certification authority, then you are required to achieve a new or higher qualifying certification within one year of expiration.\n\n
Special Requirements:\n
Ability to pass a CJIS clearance.\n
Experience in:\n\nServer virtualization\nCloud administration\nActive Directory\nMicrosoft Servers\/Exchange\/SQL\/SMS\/O365\/M365\/Teams\nMust possess valid class \"C\" Texas driver's license or acquire within 90 days of employment.\n\n
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: \n\nExtensive experience with VMware products.\nExperience with Networking, Wireless, Servers, SANs, VOIP, Datacenter power systems, backup applications for physical and virtual servers.\nKnowledge of and experience in storage area network hardware, data security and backup strategies, disaster recovery plan and other network related hardware\/software. \nKnowledge of and experience with Active Directory, group policies, Microsoft server OS, Exchange\/Outlook\/OWA E-Mail (server and client) and other server software packages.\nAbility to administer enterprise monitoring software and event logs to ensure the server environment is performing as expected.\nKnowledge of utilizing scripting languages like Python, PowerShell or Batch to manage systems is a plus.\nAbility to serve the public and other City departments in a diplomatic and professional manner, exercising good emotional control; must have good interpersonal skills.\nAbility to work independently in the absence of supervision or as part of a team and on multiple projects simultaneously and maintain a quality work product. \nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nAbility to create and update documentation and diagrams of the data center infrastructure, as well as other key systems.\nAbility to maintain awareness and provide recommendations on new products and technologies to ensure growth and efficiencies.\nAbility to assist the infrastructure services team with supporting all city networking and compute for performance and health of network switches, routers, wireless access points and firewalls.\nStrong troubleshooting skills for solving problems accurately and quickly for resolution and enhancements to the City server environment.\nAbility to provide backup administration to other infrastructure staff, assist IT Manager on special projects and assist the Desktop support staff when the workload requires.\nAbility to coordinate with vendors and other IT personnel.\nMust be able to participate in rotating call schedule and must be able to must be able to accept escalation from others on non-call weeks.\nMust be able to respond to on-call and emergency afterhours events. After-hours and weekend work required depending on the nature of the project.\n\n
PHYSICAL DEMANDS\n
This position is physically comfortable. The individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort in a normal office environment. The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as servers, computers or other equipment (up to 50 pounds) and\/or stooping, bending, very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis and extensive use of a video display terminal. There may be sources of discomfort, i.e., outdoor installations, hot\/cold temperature and humid\/wet conditions. Hands-on environment.\n
