Systems Engineer
**Systems Engineer** **Position Overview** The Systems Engineer will support automation initiatives within operations in Bloomington/Shakopee. The role will focus on designing, integrating, maintaining and communication between systems such as an ERP, SCADA, MES, WMS, and internal software. Responsible for driving technical solutions that support system connectivity, automation, data analytics, and overall business operations optimization. This role offers an opportunity to take ownership of complex systems, drive process improvements, and lead technical initiatives that contribute directly to the success of business operations and production. **Essential Functions** (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) + **System Architecture & Design:** Design, plan, and develop system architecture that integrates multiple production and business systems for process optimization and automation, ensuring seamless communication between systems such as ERP, SCADA, MES, WMS, and other internal production tools. + **SCADA Development & Maintenance:** Design, configure, and maintain SCADA systems using Ignition software. This includes developing new SCADA interfaces, programming tags, and integrating new hardware for system expansion. Proficiency in Ignition modules (e.g., Alarm, History, Reporting, and Transaction Groups) is required. + **Software Tool Development & Programming:** Use advanced programming skills (SQL, Python) to develop software solutions, manage databases, and automate system processes. Develop non-product software and internal tools for business operations. This includes creating custom tools for managing and improving system performance, automation, and user interface for non-technical staff. + **Networking & Database Management:** Manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure, database systems, and web servers. Familiarity with networking protocols (VLAN/Ethernet/IP) and data communications equipment is required. Troubleshoot connectivity and data flow issues between systems. + **Automation & Process Improvement:** Lead the development of automation solutions within the production environment. Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual processes and enhance system efficiency. + **Collaboration:** Work closely with global system owners, corporate IT teams, and business stakeholders to develop best practices, increase system capabilities, and drive business improvements. + **System Troubleshooting & Support:** Provide diagnostics for systems, databases, and software daily. Proactively resolve issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operations. Continuous improvement of system performance to reduce the need for support. + **Technology & Industry Trends:** Stay ahead of industry trends by researching new technologies, solutions, and best practices. Develop a roadmap for integrating emerging technologies and maintaining competitiveness in the market. + **Training & Knowledge Sharing:** Provide training for both technical and non-technical staff on new systems, software, and procedures. Embrace change and apply new knowledge to improve system performance and business outcomes. + **Self-Motivation:** Ability to work independently and take initiative to resolve issues or improve systems with minimal supervision. **Desired Qualifications** **Required Education:** + 2-year degree or associate’s degree in engineering or related field (computer science, robotics/electronics, IT technology, machining) or equivalent work experience. **Preferred Education:** + Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field. **Preferred Experience:** + **Manufacturing, Regulatory Compliance** Medical device manufacturing experience. + **Programming Languages:** Knowledge of SQL, Python, and scripting languages for system integration, database management, and automation. + **SCADA:** Ignition software. + **Networking & Communication:** In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (VLAN, Ethernet/IP) and their use in transmitting data between systems and equipment. + **System Integration & Troubleshooting:** Expertise in integrating diverse systems (ERP, MES, SCADA, internal applications) and troubleshooting system and communication failures to ensure reliable operations **Travel:** Limited **Job Location:** Bloomington, MN (through mid-2025); Shakopee, MN (starting in mid-2025) **Working Environment:** Office and light assembly operations. **Physical Demands:** Sitting, standing, walking and support of assembly operations.
