Systems Engineer / Analyst
Description Are you a "systems thinker" with systems engineering experience who wants to have impact on nationally important defense programs? Do you want a key system engineering/analyst role that helps AMDS revolutionize the art of defense and overcome the Grand Challenges of (1) Defending Distant Theaters, (2) Defending the Homeland, and (3) Defending the Seams? Do you want to help transform Command and Control (C2) for the U.S. Military in direct support of overcoming those Grand Challenges? Would you like to contribute to the engineering development, detailed analysis, prototyping and transition of military Mission Planning tools to U.S. warfighters? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking an experienced Systems Analyst. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the A3K Group Mission to develop and deliver highly capable mission planning tools into the hands of the warfighter so they can configure/optimize fielded military systems for maximum performance. You will focus that contribution on system engineering activities and system analysis efforts. As a Systems Analyst... Your primary responsibility will be to conduct system engineering activities and system analytical efforts related to military mission planning. You will provide systems engineering thought leadership and expertise focusing on requirements analysis and concept/technology development and design for planning, battle management aid, and coordination systems and tools. You will develop and use tools to analyze planning and coordination system capabilities to assist in the development of future planning, battle management aid, and coordination system and tool requirements. You will participate in requirements and design reviews and requirements reviews to ensure sponsor direction is established and assess prime contractor compliance with sponsor directions. You will develop and maintain domain expertise while leading/coordinating research, studies, and analysis on current and future planning, battle management aid, and coordination system and tool capabilities, as well as provide supporting evidence and associated recommendations to advise program sponsors. You will provide domain expertise for military test events and real-world military scenarios by conducting research, studies, and analysis to provide supporting data and associated recommendations for MDA and Navy decision-makers. You will develop and deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results. You will produce reports that bring together concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent. Have two or more years of experience in systems engineering work, data analysis activities, and/or requirements development/analysis. Have shown success working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Have programming experience with MATLAB or Python. Have demonstrated success in working in an engineering team of 3 or more people. Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills. Exercise excellent critical thinking skills. Have technical expertise in the design/analysis/operation of military systems. Hold an active Final Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Possess an advanced degree (master’s degree or PhD degree) in systems engineering, applied mathematics, applied physics, or equivalent. Have five or more years of experience in systems engineering work, data analysis activities, and/or requirements development/analysis germane to military systems pertinent to AMD. Have programming experience with MATLAB and Python. Have experience reviewing and/or authoring specifications of military systems. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
