The Systems Engineer plays a key role in supporting the information systems that are core to the technical infrastructure of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. Responsibilities include:
· Installation, implementation, and administration of FirstHealth’s Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS) environment(s); including backup and recovery; user access privileges and security rights to UCS environment(s); upgrades and security patches.
· Manage, monitor, and support Broadcom vSphere environment(s), including researching and implementing new version and upgrades.
· Installation, implementation and administration of operating systems and applications; system services such as file, print, and mail; backup and recovery; anti-virus; user access privileges and security rights; remote access; and desktop and server virtualization.
· Accountable for performing day-to-day system administrative functions in an efficient manner
· Compliance with established system configuration standards and best practices
· Provide management with understandable and actionable information regarding server and storage assets
· Promotes a positive and professional image of the Information Systems Department and of FirstHealth of the Carolinas
· Uses data analysis tools and systems along with proven expertise to ensure optimum performance and uptime of the FHC server environment
· Researches, develops and evaluates system solutions in support of complex business requirements, balancing engineering trade-offs to provide the most effective systems design and implementation.
· Consults with analysts, end users and management, and assists in advanced troubleshooting of application problems in a multi-operating system environment.
· Addresses any reported server hardware, software, network, and peripheral hardware problems, and coordinates the final resolution to those problems.
The Systems Engineer will work with IS staff, IS Management and key personnel from other departments to identify, develop, implement and support cost-effective solutions for all aspects of the organization.
ResponsibilitiesThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. · Determines the network access needs and setup of system users, based upon the standards of the Information Systems Department.
· Maintain, troubleshoot, install and repair information systems, including server hardware, system backups, storage, printer management, e-mail administration and security monitoring.
· Provides leadership in the installation and maintenance of software configurations integrated within the environment, based upon the standards of the Information Systems Department.
· Design and implement enterprise remote access applications to include virtualization of servers and desktops.
· Assesses and evaluates current and future systems to be implemented that will enhance the productivity of corporate users and the IS department as a whole.
· Work closely with analysts, IS Management, and vendors to provide the sound data information solutions for the organization.
· Maintain a current inventory of server hardware and software.
· Document, map and maintain server infrastructure and engineering documents for all projects.
· Reports all system problems to appropriate personnel and management, taking all the necessary steps to rectify any problem in a timely manner.
· Provides training and other information on operating system management procedures so that everyone will be fully knowledgeable and can address or react to any problems when required.
· Performs all other related functions and special projects as required by management.
· Maintains extensive troubleshooting documentation for areas of responsibility in both paper and electronic format.
QualificationsQualifications:
Education and Formal Training:
Two-year degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or and/or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer along with Citrix or VM Certifications, system virtualization, Cisco UCS and disaster recovery training.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible, work-related experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical and virtual server environments is required. These environments include Microsoft Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Broadcom ESXi / vSphere, Cisco UCS, and Linux.
Certification:
Certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) in at least one server specialization, or VMware Certified Professional or significant equivalent advanced industry work experience beyond the minimum is required. Retired Microsoft certifications will be considered at their equivalent current certification levels, but recertification is highly recommended. Additionally, certification in more than one Microsoft Expert-level server specialization or certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM) preferred.
Technical Training:
· Experience troubleshooting systems in physical and virtual environments.
· Experience with Windows desktop operating systems
· Experience with Windows Server operating systems
· Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
· Knowledge of could computing architectures – public and private
· Knowledge of Microsoft server applications such as Exchange and SQL Server
· Knowledge of virtualization technologies and platforms, including VMWare, Cisco UCS, HP Blade Center and Citrix
· Experience with backup and recovery tools and technologies
