About this opportunity:
We are in search of an exceptional Systems Engineer with a deep expertise in cutting-edge hardware technologies to join our dynamic team. This role is focused on harnessing the power of the latest Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware specifically designed for far-edge computing environments, leveraging the most advanced CPUs/GPUs and Network Interface Cards (NICs) available on the market. 

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with OEM vendors, Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) providers, and internal teams to ensure seamless hardware and software integration, ultimately delivering a robust, high-performance platform that supports our innovative edge computing solutions.

Engineering Unit Cloud RAN is owning the acceleration and creation of a cloud-native Radio Access Network (RAN) product offering. This unit contains in one organization total life-cycle capability from architecture definition to deployment in customer networks and capability to contribute to open-source communities.

This is a hybrid position based at our Ireland Athlone Office. 
 
What you will do:
•    Hardware Integration: Partner with leading OEM vendors to deploy, test, and integrate the latest COTS hardware for far-edge computing environments
•    Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with hardware OEM vendors to optimize and ensure compatibility with our edge computing platform
•    CaaS Integration: Partner with CaaS providers to seamlessly integrate hardware with cloud-native services for optimal performance and reliability of containerized workloads
•    System Optimization: Perform tuning and optimization of hardware and software systems for maximum efficiency and reliability
•    Platform Stability: Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network, or system issues to ensure platform stability and robustness
•    Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies in edge computing, CPUs, GPUs, NICs, and network infrastructure to propose and implement the latest innovations
•    Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver a cohesive and high-performance platform

Job Stage Description

The skills you bring:
•    Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in systems engineering or hardware integration, with a focus on COTS hardware and far-edge computing
•    Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of modern CPU and GPU architectures, NICs, and other key components used in edge computing
•    Integration Skills: Proven experience working with OEM vendors and integrating CaaS platforms into hardware solutions
•    Networking Knowledge: In-depth understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and hardware, including high-performance NICs and network optimization techniques
•    Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach to diagnosing and resolving complex hardware and system issues
•    Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with internal teams and external partners
