Become a **maker of possible** with us. **Job Summary** The Systems Engineer II will act as a key contributor to the Systems engineering team for the BD COR™ System, BD’s next-generation high-throughput molecular testing solution. Accomplishment of these goals will require the associate to frequently leverage internal engineering resources and knowledge with routine cross-functional engagement. System Engineers at IDS are characterized by their disciplined, quantitative approach to system and technology integration as well as diverse cross-functional backgrounds and experience. Members of our systems team deploy tools and processes such as Design for Six Sigma and BD’s Global Product Development System to enable more predictable product development and high quality/value products. In addition to technical expertise, system integrators bring strong leadership and team building skills. Systems Engineers at IDS are responsible for determining and ensuring comprehensive integration of electromechanical devices or systems for automated in vitro diagnostic tests. They collaborate closely within the R&D function, across functional boundaries, and as necessary, external organizations to understand, document and deliver solutions for IDS customers. They have a broad knowledge base that includes life sciences and instrumentation and apply this knowledge to address issues from technology development to concept development to product commercialization and launch. **Duties and Responsibilities** + Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems under minimal direction.  Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with objectives.  Exercises some latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments and in selecting techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining resolution. + Contributes to management of product requirements and high-level design specifications under the direction of a supervising System Integrator.  + Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups, especially assay development, hardware engineering and software engineering. + Understands, discusses, and can apply standard terminology, concepts, and principles related to product development and has working knowledge of other related subject areas. + Evaluates problems of moderate complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives.  Designs and performs development activities within defined parameters under minimal supervision. + Tests, analyzes and interprets data to provide solutions, draw conclusions and identify trends. Formulates and reports on test methods and outcomes. + Comprehends issues and resolves problems by identifying the underlying cause-and-effect relationships between multiple components. + Participates in planning and supports the completion of system verification and validation activities. This includes collecting, recording, interpreting, and reporting results to multi-functional colleagues and leaders. + Responsible for understanding and employing statistical approaches to manage technical risk and impart product robustness and reliability. + Assists in the transition from R&D to manufacturing and to system solving activities for products in the field. + May have inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.  **Minimum Qualifications** Knowledge and Skills: + Experience with Systems Engineering approaches to in vitro diagnostic development + Experience with automation, data acquisition, and statistical methods + Familiarity with diagnostic instrumentation, preferably that which uses key automation technologies such as but not limited to fluid handling, robotics, imaging systems, thermoelectric incubators, and spectral/fluorescent analysis. + Familiarity with requirement and specification management for FDA regulated products + Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills + Experience as member of project team Education and Experience: + B.S. or M.S in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline + Two plus years relevant experience in fields such as Medical Technology, Life Sciences, and Diagnostic Instrument development or a combination of education and relevant experience.
