WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:

Hybrid: This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 2 - 3 days per week but may vary depending on business demands. 

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

This Systems Engineer II position focuses on supporting system engineering activities across new and ongoing product development projects. The role involves working cross-functionally to enhance the definition, design, and development of Tandem's cloud-based products. The selected candidate will design end-to-end solutions that enable both clinical and non-clinical customer workflows, optimizing user experience throughout the product lifecycle through collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Under the guidance of systems engineering leadership, the Systems Engineer II will define system-level requirements, interface definitions, and subsystem design.

Systems Engineer II’s at Tandem are also responsible for:

Develops, documents, maintains, and communicates system and subsystem requirements and design, in coordination with various stakeholders such as Engineering, Product Management, Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Quality Assurance. Contributes to the development and maintenance of inter-system interface specifications and contracts, considering cross-subsystem impacts. Contributes to the risk management process and derives risk mitigation requirements. Provides system expertise to support on-market-products technical support troubleshooting, failure analysis, and triage of system level issues. Maintains tight collaboration with the teams responsible for product V&V, writes and reviews test plans and protocols, and helps triage issues uncovered during testing activities. Works closely with the SW and HW development teams to flow down the system and subsystem requirements and assist with establishing traceability. Traces system and subsystem requirements to the user and business needs defined for the product. Identifies and document system interdependencies to mitigate hazards, failure modes, and other risks. Maintains system level architectural diagrams and requirements on an ongoing basis.   Supports other departments as needed and considers ecosystem impacts in decision making. Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements. Other responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Demonstrated capability in Systems Engineering practices such as requirements management, design trade-off and cost-benefit analysis, hazard analysis and risk assessments. Demonstrated ability to collaborate on complex customer workflows across stakeholders and translate that to an underlying solution across various development and IT subsystems.  Ability to dive into the details and analyze different cross functional inputs to produce suitable solutions. Ability to work and deliver a high-quality work product with mentoring. Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience and established precedents. Uses prescribed guidelines or alternatives in analyzing situations. Ability to effectively convey information related to work product and lead review discussions. Familiarity with one or more of the following: ISO 13845, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, HIPAA and/or GDPR, preferred.

Minimum certifications/educational level:

Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering required, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience. Advanced coursework, master’s degree, or professional licensing in related field desirable

Minimum experience:

2 years’ experience working as a Systems Engineer or with systems engineering responsibilities in a multidisciplinary project team environment. 2 years’ experience working in a regulated industry; Medical Device industry preferred. Experience with requirements management systems (e.g., JAMA, DNG), highly desirable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $80,000.00 - $109,000.00 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.
