L.L. Bean Inc. located in Freeport Maine is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our IS Team. This position will be a Hybrid position, located in Freeport, Maine, working some days on site and some days remote.

This Systems Engineer will work independently and under the direction of the Systems Engineering Manager.  This position requires excellent critical thinking skills and be a strategic thinker, well adept at assessing problems to understand the short- and long-term impacts.  Responsibilities include understanding and resolving technical issues of administration, documentation and support of UNIX/Linux servers and provide support for the storage, backup and DR platforms, operating systems, and applications both on-premises and in cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

Drive innovation through continuous improvements in processes, systems and policies.

Work with account managers to ensure our technology investment is optimized.

Evaluate new technologies to solve problems as needed and play a significant role in architectural direction.

Attend and develop technology roadmaps.

Provide level of support to junior team members including train, encourage and help junior team members grow their skills.

Lead service incident and problem resolution efforts to support entrusted applications/products.

Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals, or technical issues, such as system design or maintenance.

Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, including security, backup, and redundant strategies.

Consult with development and application teams to provide a shared technical direction and partner with those teams to develop highly available solutions.

Subject Matter Expert within Storage Infrastructure (on prem and in the cloud) as well as Unix/Linux with basic knowledge of other disciplines/specialty areas.

Performance analysis and troubleshooting, data recovery strategies for critical systems, and data backup measures.

Responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying shared system storage resources.

Analyze fault-tolerance and high availability issues, performance and scale challenges, and solve them.

Solve challenging technical problems related to security, parallel and distributed systems, programming, resource management, large-scale system maintenance, and more.

Participate in On-Call rotation 24x7 support schedule as assigned.

Qualifications:

Hold a bachelor’s or associate degree in computer science or other applicable technical certifications

3+ years working as a Systems Engineer

Skillful using technical tools (i.e., Visio) to create detailed documentation and diagrams.

In depth experience of Shared Storage, Replication, load balancing, and WAN/NAS Technologies.

Experience using Commvault as a backup and recovery solution..

Performance analysis and troubleshooting, data recovery strategies for critical systems, and data backup measures. They must be highly skilled in storage hardware architectures; high-level programming languages; distributed file systems; network protocols; and data storage applications. 

Expert knowledge using Ansible automation tools as well as Unix shell scripting (Bash), Perl and Python scripting tools.

Experience with large-scale enterprise projects is highly recommended

In collaboration with Systems Engineering Manager and Team Lead, updates servers and configures hardware (preferably experience with Nutanix) and virtual machines (VM), applications, peripherals, services, networking, and storage to ensure business continuity and HA.
