Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Dean of the College for Community Health, the Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the technology infrastructure and services for the College for Community Health (CCHL). This includes managing the technology budget, leading technology staff, aligning services with strategic goals, and overseeing CCHL system updates, maintenance, and development to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The Systems Manager works closely with CCHL departments, centers, and institutes to ensure that technology solutions effectively meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff and align with the mission of the College.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and execute a strategic technology roadmap that aligns with the college’s mission, ensuring long-term technology goals meet college and institutional objectives.
Create, manage, and optimize the technology budget to ensure effective resource allocation for macOS, Windows systems, and servers, balancing cost-effectiveness with the needs of the College.
Lead and mentor a team of technology professionals, including hiring, training, and managing performance of staff, student workers, and interns, to ensure operational excellence.
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of technology infrastructure, including networks, servers, specialized research labs, and audiovisual systems, providing consultation as necessary.
Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux and Windows servers, including creating and managing patch schedules, and applying updates regularly to ensure system security and performance.
Provide support for lab and research-specific applications, servers, and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and efficient system performance.
Update and maintain internal applications using modern web and server technologies to enhance functionality, resolve issues, and ensure reliable performance in line with institutional requirements.
Oversee the IVS clinical observation system for faculty and staff in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), coordinating with the Division of Information Technology (DIT) when necessary.
Perform “Cradle to Grave” call resolution for hardware and software issues for CCHL faculty and staff, coordinating with external departments and/or vendors as needed.
Provide comprehensive technical support for research grants, including materials and technological resources necessary for grant-related activities in CCHL.
Provide support for lab and research-specific applications, servers, and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and efficient system performance.
Create, administer, and troubleshoot Active Directory Services (Security Groups, Group Policy) to address organizational needs and provide operational capabilities to users.
Utilize System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to create, customize, deploy, and maintain Windows images and task sequences via SCCM.
Utilize Jamf to deploy, manage, and maintain macOS devices, creating and customizing configurations, policies, and scripts tailored to the specific needs of the College, including lab environments and specialized workflows.
Serve as Listmaster for the College, responsible for creating and configuring CCHL-specific Sympa mailing lists and list feeds to meet organizational needs and streamline communication.
Ensure the consistent delivery of technology services, including help desk support, classroom technology, and learning management systems, to faculty and staff.
Manage relationships with technology vendors and partners, negotiating contracts and ensuring agreements are executed effectively to meet College needs.
Leverage our ITSM tool to manage incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution and adherence to service level agreements, while swiftly addressing and escalating customer conflicts when necessary.
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, identifying opportunities to innovate and enhance the college's technology ecosystem.
Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory records, ensuring all assets are tracked and updated in line with established procedures.
Develop and regularly update documentation related to new or modified hardware, software, and processes, as well as internal policies and standard operating procedures.
Attend and participate in College events and functions.
Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college or university. Relevant IT certifications/equivalent experience in an information systems role may be considered in lieu of degree.
Minimum of four years of direct, hands-on technical support on Windows and Mac computing hardware and software.
Experience in a technology leadership role, managing systems and server environments (Windows 2012 and higher, Linux, or similar).
In-depth expertise in deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting enterprise desktop operating systems, including Windows 10+ and macOS 10.14+ in an enterprise environment.
Practical experience in Active Directory administration and domain management, including creating and deploying group policies to effectively manage endpoint devices.
Jamf Pro Certified Technician (Jamf 200 course), or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.
Proven track record of successful technology planning, budget management, and team leadership.
Strong knowledge of infrastructure design and management, including network and server infrastructure, telecommunications, and audiovisual systems.
Strong understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, routing, switching, and firewalls as it relates to the endpoint computing environment.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Office 365 environment.
Experience with managing technology vendors and partners, negotiating contracts, and managing budgets.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with information security policies and procedures, particularly in the context of higher education.
Ability to lift 40lbs or more.

Proficient in application packaging and automation technologies across both Windows and Linux / Unix-like environments, including PowerShell, batch scripting, Python, and bash, with a strong ability to streamline workflows and manage system configurations.
Experience in front-end web development using modern web technologies for dynamic content management and database-driven applications.
Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that technology solutions are effectively meeting the needs of the college.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
A+, MCSA / MCSE or relevant Microsoft role-based certification(s), a plus.
Previous experience working in a higher education environment, with a strong understanding of academic processes and institutional needs.
