GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This senior level position provides lead work direction, mentoring and monitoring to other network staff. Performs and coordinates incident management and tracking responsibilities. Reviews outstanding problems to ensure proper documentation and escalation procedures are being followed. Provides technical assistance and support to staff who are assisting end-users. Performs more difficult and complex work in providing technical assistance to system users for network related problems. This level requires an in-depth understanding of a wide variety of technologies and maintaining specific technical systems. These technologies include network circuits, advanced monitoring systems, network hardware (switches and routers), wireless control systems, firewalls and advanced security configurations. Educates and mentors staff members on how to deliver superior customer service. Another key component of this job includes effective communication skills to effectively document, organize, and disseminate information to various audiences. Authorized to independently make decisions regarding routine daily work in a structured supervised setting.

+ Tier 3 Network Support
Provides the highest level of technical support for the enterprise unified network. Oversees the resolution of user-created tickets and minor service requests. Assists in the gathering of relevant information, troubleshooting, root cause diagnosis, and resolution implementation. Reassigns issues to the proper team when the root cause is not network-related.
Responsible for monitoring overall network performance. Uses a variety of testing tools and procedures to verify hardware and circuit performance, check for packet loss or latency, identify unusual log entries, and evaluate traffic patterns. Proactively finds and mitigates issues before they become noticeable to users.
Lead others on projects and manage projects that may include other ETS teams.
+ Prepares, peer-reviews, and implements major network changes. These include route changes, VRF changes, and management of major networking protocols (i.e. STP, FHRPs, LAGs, OSPF, MPLS, and BGP). Assists with circuit installs, disconnects, and upgrades, hardware replacement, and network operating system software upgrades. Communicates and coordinates with other ETS teams, agencies, and users as needed. Attend meetings as a representative of the network team.
+ Documents and shares network information, including IP subnet usage, VLAN assignments, hardware models, software versions, configuration baselines, and best practices. Creates and updates diagrams for all large or complex networks. Manages and uses a variety of systems for automated documentation when available.
+ Research technology advancements throughout the networking and IT industries. Research new protocols, designs, hardware advancement, and best practices. Suggest possible applications of changes to coworkers, management, or users as appropriate.
+ Prepare training materials that enhance standardization and understanding. Present training to coworkers, other IT staff, or users. Training topics may include networking software tools, proper device configuration, industry protocols, effective troubleshooting techniques, or design topology.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with experience in supporting and maintaining an Enterprise Platform.
Preference may be given to those with experience in Cisco Network Administration, CCNA CCNP certifications.
Preference may be given to those with experience in Juniper technology areas, Juniper JUNOS, and Juniper certifications.
Preference may be given to those with experience in the management, analysis, design, monitoring, and support of wide-area networks.
Preference may be given to those with experience in the installation, modification, or replacement of hardware or software components and any configuration changes that affect network infrastructures.
Preference may be given to those with experience in configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of wide-area network routers for use in large-scale, wide-area, routed networks.
Preference may be given to those with experience in consulting and communicating with contract consultants, vendors, local network administrators, peers, and all levels of management.
Preference may be given to those with experience in using Linux operating systems.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Expert skill in the analysis of complex network systems, problem identification, and solution design.
+ Expert skill in research and testing of alternative, proprietary, or custom solutions.
+ Expert knowledge of IP network engineering and design.
+ Advanced knowledge of networking hardware used in the state's enterprise network infrastructure.
+ Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of network security and architecture.
+ Knowledge of Network Access Controls(NAC), Access Control Lists(ACL) and security processes related to switches and routing.
+ Local and wide area network administration and management including JunOS, CatOS, Cisco IOS, and Meraki.
+ Knowledge of modern network security tools and practices including firewalls, zero trust and SASE solutions.
+ Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
+ Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and apply them to current work.
+ Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical persons efficiently.
+ Ability to lead the work of others on specific projects/tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Technology)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist III
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist III
