JBS Tannery started in April 1997. The majority of Cactus’ production is exported. The wet blue hides are further processed into finished leather used in the production of various leather goods. The Cactus Tannery also provides custom bluing for various customers and custom splitting in the blue. Cactus wet blue is also utilized in the production of boots for the U.S. military. Cactus tannery has received a Gold Medal ranking from the Leather Working Group. This group of industry leaders has established guidelines regarding environmental stewardship.
JBS created its leather division in 2009 as an important part of its strategy to add value to the production chain. JBS Leather is the world’s largest leather processing company with 21 manufacturing units and 5 distribution centers on 4 continents. The business unit currently employs around 9 thousand people worldwide and produces wet blue, semi-finished and finished leather for the automotive, furniture, footwear and artifacts industries.
