Job Description Summary
Sonesta Hotels is seeing a success driven, energetic Task Force Chief Engineer. The Task Force Chief Engineer will provide both short- and long-term task force coverage for any Focus Service Sonesta hotel across our portfolio to serve as the acting Chief Engineer. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, The Chief Engineer directs and supervises the Maintenance staff as requested by General Manager of the Focus Service hotel they are servicing. You will direct a team responsible for the maintenance of buildings and grounds, including renovations, expansions, and improvements. Teamwork, collaboration and proactive communication across both Operations and Engineering management are critical to this position’s success.The ideal candidate has experience with basic building facilities systems (i.e. hot water heating equipment, water systems, generators, medium-grade HVAC equipment etc.). Plus, experience using hotel & building systems (i.e. Transcendent, ALICE, INNCOM, Verdant, Saflok, HVAC BMS, etc.).

Job Description
Operational/Functional:
Maintain, coordinate and monitor preventive maintenance programs of all building equipment and guest roomsAssist General Managers with all aspects of Capital Improvement Projects including budgeting, forecasting, bidding and selection of potential contractors. Approver of Project Approval Requests for assigned propertiesAssists General Manager with all Emergency procedures and preparedness.Follow up on projects and assignments, coordinated with General ManagersAudit and inspect assigned facilities as needed, in coordination with Operations managementManage third party vendors and national account partners, as required, setting clear expectations and accountabilityFoster clear communications with key stakeholders and management of assigned propertiesStrategy and Planning:
Develop, recommend and direct the operation, policies, procedures, plans and programs of the Engineering DepartmentProactively track Capital & Operations projects, asset inventory, and contractsParticipate in Standard Operating Procedures development and rolloutReview potential new systems, equipment, and programs and recommend for use to senior management and business unit partnersActively participate and represent the Engineering team in renovation projects and conversions of new properties up to and including punch walks before inventory is turned over to the operations teamFinancial Management:
Analyze accounting records and data for operating costs and variance reports.Use approved contracts for services.Identify opportunities to improve the overall bottom line of Property, Operations and Maintenance expendituresManaging your Team
Interview, train and coach Directors of Engineering, Chief Engineer, and Maintenance Manager applicants.Ensure team members receive proper training applicable to their position and career aspirations and in accordance with company policy and/or local lawsResponsible for monitoring, measuring, and recognizing performance of team members who directly report to the role and indirect reportsSupport, comply with and promote company initiatives, policies and guidelines.Handle employee issues in a professional and timely mannerLeading with Passion

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competence.
High school diploma or equivalent vocational training acceptable based on work experience, minimum of 5 years direct experience in the maintenance of mechanical, life/safety, electrical and plumbing operations of hotels or commercial buildings, and 2 years supervisory experience.A strong background in facilities systems and preventative maintenance programs across typical building disciplines (i.e. HVAC, roofs, electrical, plumbing, etc.), as well as building management systems, is expected.Track record of delivering exceptional support to colleagues, clients, customers and/or guestsAbility to prioritize and organize work assignments, and enforce hotel’s standard policies, procedures, and programsAn ability to respond quickly and develop solutions for common inquiries, complaints, and urgent issues, and deal with a wide variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to clearly present action plans and updates to senior management and ownership representatives on key projects and urgent mattersExperience in working with and managing third party vendors, establishing partnerships as needed, and setting clear expectations and accountabilityWorking knowledge of life/safety systems, plumbing codes, electrical codes, national/local fire codes, local mechanical codes, water treatment program, blueprints/schematics.Demonstrable expertise in analysis and action takingExcellent oral and written communicationExcellent organizational skillsAppropriate professional appearance and demeanorProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointAdditional Job Information/Anticipated
Pay Range
$75,000 to $85,000. Base pay offer may vary depending on various factors, including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific/overall experience
