(HYBRID) Sr. Tax Accountant

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Tax Accountant to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate tax requirements and to mitigate tax risk for our organization and its affiliates. You will work closely with a third-party service provider and handle various tax-related responsibilities, financial reporting disclosures, and process improvements.

ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate tax requirements and mitigate tax risk for the organization and its affiliates.Perform tax research, identify critical tax risks, and monitor, evaluate, and communicate the impact of enacted changes in tax regulations.Manage tax provisions, general ledger entries, reconciliations, unclaimed property, escheatment process, and required financial reporting disclosures for the company's financial statements.Respond to tax-related inquiries and correspondence from tax authorities, external auditors, and internal departments, assisting in issue resolution.Proactively identify and implement tax-related process improvements to ensure accuracy and adequate documentation of all tax calculations, reports, and filings.Monitor and update state nexus studies based on local regulations and business activities.Handle other tax-related matters such as 1099s, Business, Professional and Occupational License tax, and property tax.Assist with the preparation and completion of quarterly Form 10-Q and annual 10-K filings with the SEC.Complete account reconciliations, journal entries, and other month-end and quarter-end close processes.Prepare board materials, review investor relations/rating agency communications, support patronage capital processes, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting.Essential Skills4+ years of public/private US corporate tax experience (1120, 990).4+ years of general ledger accounting experience (journal entries, reconciliations, month-end, quarter-end, etc.).Experience with Oracle ERP (Fusion preferred).Experience with US federal, state, and local tax provisions (ASC 740), SOX compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley, and SEC reporting.Strong technical knowledge of tax and accounting principles and financial reporting disclosure requirements.Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to perform tax and accounting research, independently evaluate issues, and apply sound business judgment.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with an emphasis on tax preferred.CPA highly preferred.Experience with CCH ProSystem tax preparation and compliance software is preferred.Form 990 experience preferred.Work Environment

This role offers a flexible work environment with hours between 7 AM to 9 AM, working 8-9 hours with a lunch break. The position requires a hybrid work schedule with 3 days per week in the office. Our state-of-the-art headquarters are located in Sterling, VA.
