Tax Accountant
Job Title: Senior Tax Accountant

Job Description

The Senior Tax Accountant serves as the company’s subject matter expert on all tax-related matters. This position will be an individual contributor and is expected to develop tax strategies and policies in response to proposed business transactions and revised/updated tax rules. The Senior Tax Accountant will provide tax-planning guidance to management and be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and filing of various taxes.

ResponsibilitiesMaintain compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate tax requirements and mitigate tax risk for the company and its affiliates.Perform tax research, identify critical tax risks, and monitor, evaluate, and communicate the impact of changes in federal, state, and local tax regulations.Prepare tax provisions, general ledger entries, reconciliations, unclaimed property and escheatment processes, and required financial reporting disclosures for the company’s financial statements.Respond to tax-related inquiries and correspondence from federal, state, and local tax authorities, external auditors, and internal accounting, legal, and HR inquiries, and assist in the resolution of issues.Proactively identify and implement tax-related process improvements to ensure the accuracy and adequate documentation of all tax calculations, reports, and filings, and ensure compliance with tax-related SOX controls.Monitor and update state nexus study based on local regulations and business activities.Manage other tax-related matters such as 1099s, Business, Professional and Occupational License tax, property tax, etc.Complete all tax-related account reconciliations and journal entries on a monthly basis.Assist with informational reporting for maintaining state lender’s license in various states, prepare and submit responses to Census surveys.Assist with the preparation of tax and certain non-tax disclosures in the quarterly Form 10-Q and annual 10-K filings with the SEC.Assist with preparing board materials and reviewing investor relations/rating agency communications.Essential Skills4+ years' public/private US corporate tax experience (Forms 1120, 990).Experience with US federal, state, and local tax provisions (ASC 740).Experience creating tax strategies in response to updated tax rules.Knowledge of SOX compliance and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.Experience with SEC reporting, financial statements, and balance sheets.Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables.Strong technical knowledge of tax and accounting principles.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, with an emphasis in tax preferred.CPA or actively working towards CPA is required.Experience with CCH ProSystem tax preparation and compliance software is preferred.Experience with federal and state corporation tax returns is required.Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills.Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Work Environment

The work environment includes a flexible schedule with reporting times between 7 AM and 9 AM, and an 8-9 hour workday with a lunch break. The position allows for a hybrid work model with 3 days per week in the office. The company’s headquarters are state-of-the-art and located in Sterling, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
