**Purpose**
Lead corporate professional of income and other tax planning, financial statement reporting, and government compliance and controversy tasks for the corporate global operations. This position will report directly to the SVP-Accounting and will support the Accounting and Financial Reporting function with its internal and external tax reporting needs.
**Responsibilities**
**Leadership and Direction**
+ Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
+ Focus on day-to-day operations, provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.
**At the Operational and Company Level**
+ Demonstrate and ensure conformance with company philosophy, policies, and procedures.
+ Proactively engage, evaluate, and drive resolution of issues as they arise.
+ Manage external consultants on research and development tax credits, stock compensation accounting, and other outsourced tax projects, including managing integration of third-party developed data and conclusions into corporate tax accounting and compliance deliverables.
+ Manage department cost center budgeted and actual expenses, including proposing annual budgets and reforecasts, reconciling budget-to-actual results, approval of internal and third-party expenses in accordance with corporate controls, processes, and standard operating procedures.
+ Hire, evaluate, and where necessary separate employees within the Tax Department in accordance with Human Resource processes, procedures and requirements.
+ Recommend initial salaries, annual salary increases and annual bonuses in accordance with Human Resource processes, procedures and requirements.
**Do the Work**
+ Oversee the quarterly and annual financial statement income tax provision, pursuant to ASC 740 and all subsets thereof.
+ Oversee the federal, state, and local corporate income tax filings and compliance (including annual extension and quarterly estimated tax payments and filings) and/or review tax returns and work papers prepared in support of the final tax returns.
+ Oversee the state & local sales & use tax, personal property tax, and business license compliance functions, including reviewing nexus and overseeing registration and reporting where required.
+ Oversee documentation and compliance of tax department’s SOX-404 and other internal controls.
+ Support and provide documentation for tax audits and controversy, if any.
+ Prepare ad hoc analyses and perform other assignments as necessary.
+ Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and regulations, and keep management informed of current legislation and potential tax savings opportunities.
+ Work closely with SVP-Accounting and executive management to ascertain the tax impacts and risks of various corporate strategies and initiatives, including business development deals and expansion plans.
+ Work with external counsel and consultants as well as Chief Legal Officer and other internal resources on due diligence evaluations and integration of tax accounting and government reporting compliance for business acquisitions and creation of new geographic footprints.
+ Maintain relationships with external financial statement auditors and tax consultants.
**Success Metrics and Competencies**
+ Be self-reliant and able to operate independently with limited direction.
+ Have a sense of urgency in responding to management and internal customers.
+ Able to successfully execute tax projects and tax compliance deliverables with an eye towards an efficient corporate effective tax rate and favorable impact to overall corporate cash flow, while staying compliant with ASC 740 and other financial reporting guidance and tax laws and regulations.
+ Adaptable and seeks opportunities to contribute to team and individual growth.
**Qualifications**
+ Master’s degree in Taxation or comparable graduate finance degree is required; LL.M. in Taxation is a plus.
+ CPA certification (and in good standing) is required.
+ A minimum of 12 years of progressively challenging SEC-registrant corporate income tax or public accounting (tax practice) experience, including department leadership experience, is required.
+ Expertise in SEC financial accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) is required.
+ Experience in multi-state taxation is required.
+ Experience in M&A due diligence and corporate accounting integration is required.
+ Experience in research & development tax credits is preferred.
+ Experience in federal and state tax controversy/audits is preferred.
+ Experience in international tax issues including cross-border and transfer pricing is a plus.
+ Strong tax research and analytical skills as well as a strong willingness to learn new tax topics are required.
+ Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
+ Microsoft Excel and Word skills are required.
+ Experience with various Tax Compliance and Tax Provision software is preferred.
**Physical Demands and Working Environment**
+ Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
+ Mobility around an office environment.
+ Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
