Tax Senior, Manager, and Senior Manager - State and Local Tax

Responsibilities Manages and delegates Specialty Tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product. Participates actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the Tax Department with larger clients. Acts as a Specialty Tax / State and Local Tax (SALT) resource for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff on specific tax issues and/or questions. Assumes client service responsibility. Works directly with clients where the responsibility is delegated from the partner or manager. Communicates to the appropriate firm personnel important tax developments affecting the firm's clients. Delegates and manages tax audits and tax appeal matters; may represent the client before the appropriate taxing authorities for meetings such as hearings / appeals. Prepares written technical memorandum to the appropriate taxing authorities and written correspondence to clients. Has strong client interaction skills (verbal and written). Prepares other reports and projects as requested from time to time by the partners or manager. Participates in firm's practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities. Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for the development and training of senior, semi-seniors and staff accountants. Must be familiar with the qualifications of all Tax staff members for the development and instruction of their training needs. Qualifications At least five (5) years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope, and research. At least two (2) years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities. Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers. Bachelor's degree in accounting required, master's degree in taxation preferred. Minimum of forty hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills. CPA or J.D. certification (or working towards certification). Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws. Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs.
