The opportunity
The EY Quantitative Economics and Statistics (QUEST) practice is an interdisciplinary team that brings together more than 50 economists, statisticians, and business analysts, many with deep industry and government experience. A number of our team members have held positions with the US Treasury Department, President’s Council of Economic Advisers, Congressional Budget Office, Internal Revenue Service, US Census Bureau, Energy Department, and research organizations — and 70% of QUEST professionals hold advanced degrees in their respective fields. Our team has developed proprietary tools and a data-driven approaches based on a deep understanding of economic and tax data from a wide range of sources. This understanding of how each data point is defined and estimated means we avoid common data pitfalls and produce results that preserve the quantitative meaning of the data. We model economic impacts, legislative changes, regulatory impacts, tax policy, climate policy, and conduct surveys.
EY’s QUEST practice is seeking an economist to join our team of economists and statisticians in Washington, D.C.
Your key responsibilities
Quantitatively analyze and model economic, tax, and regulatory policies Construct economic models to estimate the economic contribution of industries and sectors Estimate the financial impact of physical and transition climate risks on companies Be able to understand academic papers in the field of economics and incorporate their results and methodologies into your work Write and edit reports that translate technical quantitative analyses to broad audiences such as members of Congress, Congressional staff, the media, and other participants in policy discussions Craft dynamic data visualizations that highlight key insights from quantitative analysis
Qualifications
Master's or Ph.D. in public policy / economics or other quantitative discipline A minimum of 3 years of related work experience Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply quantitative methods in a business environment Interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork and the ability to direct the work of other team members Strong written and visual communication skills Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a team environment and meet deadlines Strong technical skills in data processing using both Microsoft Excel (e.g., advanced Excel formulas) and coding languages such as STATA, R, and Python Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment

The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $95,200 to $157,000. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $114,200 to $178,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
